I wouldn't bother using the 727 when the 998 was used in Jeeps behind 4.0's from the factory. The 727 will bolt up, but the first thing that comes to mind is that it won't have a provision for a 4.0's CPS. Find a 3-speed auto from a YJ or TJ.

the thing is i have the 727 sitting there i would relocate the cps to the front with the advanced adapter kit or i have access to machine shop to mill the cps location. my question was more what flexplate and flywheel and torque converter to use

The question is more what transfer case and front axle will be used. An XJ's front differential pinion axis is farther inboard than a FSJ's and whatever transfer case you are using may not have the same center-to-front-output axis distance as the FSJ units.

Have you already determined whether the driveshaft location is going to be feasible throughout the suspension's range of travel?
