Iberostar Playa Paraiso - several properties on the Mayan Riviera. Spectacular places, great service.

Barcelo Maya Beach - also very nice on the Mayan Riviera.

Be aware - most of these places are European, and Europe takes vacation in August. They get crowded with chain-smoking Europeans who do not respect our midwestern Amercian concept of personal space and don't understand lines and organization.

Oh, and it gets HOT. Like 90 at midnight hot.

June is nice - not as crazy hot as August but nice (90-ish during the day, 70s at night).

The big agencies like Apple or FunJet have deals and onsite agents at the resorts.

:sonicjay::sonicjay::sonicjay: We were on a cruise two years ago with a bunch of Brazilian professional football players, and they were the rudest people I've ever seen in my life. I could not believe it. However, they have extremely hot wives and girlfriends :teehee:

Going to research the ones you two listed. thx

Be careful where you fly in if its not direct to the resort town. A town that we were told was safe last year is now on the no travel to list at work after one of the hotels (Holiday Inn) in that town was shot up.

We used to fly there (Monterrey, MX) to support a plant an hour away. Now we have to fly into to Houston with a long layover and then direct to the town and will be escorted by security the whole time we are there.

Luckily, I'm not on that program anymore so I haven't had to experience it; but I just talked to someone who did it about a month ago.

Monterrey is no good to fly into anymore? We like that stop on the way to Guadalajara. Hell, its all better than flying into El Paso and then driving into Juarez like I used to. Sao Paulo is direct escorts for us, no taxis allowed....

I would stay on the gulf side, look at places south from Cancun, nice stuff there. Pacific side is more city life, like Acapulco or Puerta Vallarta.

Definately understand the lattitudes you'll be at, as mentioned above. Acapulco was a whole other ballpark in terms of sun intensity, compared with other tropical places I've been to (Brazil, Hawaii, Florida, Hong Kong, nothing was like Southern Mexico...).

I really like Mexico, I have been around 20 times.

Mexico is great, but I would stay away from there for now. Lots of bad stuff going on, at least on the Baja side. I have a dumb question though.??.. Why in the hell would you fly somewhere far away just to stay on one property? I say F all inclusive. Be a man and go vacation somewhere were you have to actually get off your ass and go on an adventure. There are plenty of beaches and nice areas to relax at that are not all inclusive. I dont get the point of cruises either, but thats just me.

I spent a week at the Barcelo Tropical last year and it was extremely nice. The Barcelo has 3 resorts, the Palace (most expensive) Tropical/Colonial (middle of the 3) and I forgot the cheapest. We stayed at the Tropical and walked over to to Palace, personally I would stay at the same place again, the palace wasn't worth the extra money IMO. The cheaper place wasn't as nice and you didn't have access at the other resorts. We had all inclusive which included all the food and drinks (including liquor), stocked rooms with whatever you wanted, 5 special restaurant tickets so (Jap Steakhouse, Seafood, Mexican, Steakhouse, forgot the other one) we ate the buffet the other 2 nights. Activities included free snorkeling, kayaks, windsurfing, and all of the other beach activities.
As far as the Iberostar, I have friends that stay there every year and they won't go anywhere else. I've seen there pictures and they are very nice. I'm pretty sure it's a little more expensive than the Barcelo.
We went in March last year and paid 4k for 2 adults and 2 kids and that included non-stop airfare on Northwest air with all of the transfers from Cancun airport to the resort.
Just a tip for you stay, give the groundkeepers a couple of bucks and they will knock down some coconuts for you and chop the tops off. The bartenders know what to do with them. It's the best drink available and the coconut water is very healthy for you too.
Have fun!

I guess this is technically slightly north of what most people view as the caribbean, but my brother had nothing but excellent things so say about the Atlantis resort - he was there a year or two after it opened and on the company dime however so that may have tainted his view a bit more positive than it otherwise would have been.

I've stayed all inclusive in riviera maya, cancun, cozumel, huatulco, and puerto vallarta.

puerto vallarta and huatulco are on the pacific side, so the water is nearly as clear, or tropical (allthough Idk how the oil spill has effected the gulf) so the diving wasnt as nice. also huatulco was rediculous hot and humid, and their were huge spiders and scorpions and shit everywhere.

cancun, and riviera maya were my favorites, It was more into the college spring break scene. I did take the ferry over to cozumel for the day which was nice.

cozumel for a whole week was fun, but the island gets boring after a few days if your looking for something to do outside the resort.

We did Riviara last year and did Cozumel this year. Cozumel was several hundred bucks cheaper per person than riviara maya this year.

We stayed for 7 days for $800 per person all inclusive at Iberostar Cozumel. I agree that there is probably not as much to do as there is on the main land but the gf and I are pretty lazy on vacation. The scuba diving was awesome. They had a dive station at the resort.

I have friends that stay at Iberostar Playa and Barcelo. Both are spectacular but a little pricey for us as we want to go yearly. My understanding is that Barcelo is the nicer of the two.
