so I need to replace the auto trans in my 99 ranger 3.0.

I know that it has the 4r44e in it...

what other year trucks have this exact transmission in it?

I found a 97 a guy is parting out that has a 3.0 and automatic trans....

how do I know if it is a 4r44e?

and can someone give me a list of what years the 4r44e comes in ?

thanks guys...

As far as I know, the 4R44E remained relatively unchanged from 1995-2001 in the 4cyl. and 3.0L Rangers. 4.0L Trucks had the 4R55E, and later the 5R55E. You should have a direct replacement there. Also, the only available automatic in a '97 3.0L was the 4R44E, so if it's an auto, it's what you need.

I know when the trans went in my '95 4.0L ranger, which was a 4r55e, I replaced it with a 5r55e out of an late '90's Explorer. I had to swap neutral safety switch between the two because of different plugs. Outside of that, there was 1 bellhousing bolt that didn't line up because of one being a OHV engine and one a SOHC.
