You guys with the ZF trans do you know how to put a TCase on it and what model TC to go with?

Also I'm thinking that straight axle out an F-350 and spring would be good. Does anyone by chance have pictures of that shackle mounts?

Thanks for any advice!

changing the output shaft and using a bw1356 would prolly be the most common setup. Or find a 4x4 zf.

Since the last uneducated post I've been doing research and those seem to be the options.

Maybe I should just wait for a wrecked 4x4 truck as a donor

I thought you just bought a donor :sonicjay:

although there was a cheap zf on the board, the are usually pretty hard to find at a decent price.

Offroad Unlimited has a reverse shackle kit for the F350 that they said would work to convert a 2wd to 4wd. It is also suppost to improve the ride too.

Here's the easiest (and probably cheapest) way to do it.

Step 1: Buy a '95 F-250 4x4

Step 2: Sell '95 F-250 2wd
Let me guess, you must have graduated at the top of your class with a brain that can come up with answers like those above.

Since you are the one asking how to do it, I find it incredibly funny to think that you are going to try to badmouth someone that actually knows what kind of work that goes into swapping a rig from 2wd to 4wd. I guess you could just pay someone else do it, but then you wouldn't need to ask this question here, would you??

If you do it yourself, expect a lot of downtime, busted knuckles, mismatched parts, plenty of time rounding up all those little parts you didn't think you'd need and a rig that won't be worth anywhere near the sum of its parts.

If you have someone else do it, expect it to be worth half of what you spend on it.

Seriously, I think you need to read Immortal's thread- It applies to you. :poke:

Yeah this has been beat to death over the years...
Sell it, buy some beer, keep your eyes peeled for a 4x4
lot less invested, same return

I have all the parts you will need, except the trans stuff. I have a '93 F-250 with a 6" lift. The motor/trans and rear axle/springs are gone. It has a D50 IFS 4:10 in front, though a D60 out of a F350 is a better choice they are extremely pricey.I was going to remove the drop brackets and springs from the truck and scrap the leftovers. If you are interested let me know. It is a really simple swap to convert a 2wd to a 4x4, i have helped several friends do similar projects.

Not so easy with a 76-79 many things different on the 2wd frame. I have lots of spare parts so it has been fun but would not have been cheap or fun if I didn't have alot of parts or time.
