Most people would think it crazy, but has anyone done a 5.4 ford conversion? I have been looking for a 5.3 gm and came across a 2000 expadition that all the body parts are junk on. It is a 5.4, automatic, 4x4 with about 105,000 miles, still runs and drives. I like fords so this would be cool unless it is going to be unfavorable compared to a 5.3 (they are simular in power I believe). It would be going in a jEeP.

Please share your thoughts.

Also:
1. What transfer case options would I have (it has an electric shift one now)?
2. What tranny would this be?
3. Dificulty leval to modify wiring harness?

The info. I got from looking around was the 5.4 is larger in size than a big block. Also, there is not much information to be had on conversions, I found one guy who put one in a ranger (3 plus year build). Although I would love to do it, I think I am going to stick with the 5.3 plan???

Anybody interested in a good deal on a 5.4 drivetrain?

there are a lot of Ford motors I love and would consider swapping into other rigs. A NA 5.4 isn't even close to being on the list.

Not to hijack, but why not?

I'm sorta looking at new trucks and am starting to like the F-150. I'd be curious about your reasoning on the 5.4.

What about the 4.6 in an F-150? I have a 98 Grand Marquis with 150K+ and that 4.6 sounds and runs like it has 15K intead of 150K. I'm pretty happy with it...

Don't get me wrong, the 5.4 in a F150 is fine. I just wouldn't go through the trouble of trying to get it to work in another vehicle.

If you insist V8, I would look to a Lincoln Mark VIII or a Lincoln Continental
It is an all aluminum 4.6L motor, basically a Mustang Cobra motor, detuned for a quiet intake, exhaust and to give the transmission a fighting chance.

I personally still swear by my supercoupe motor. 3.8L V6, supercharged from the factory. Can be had in both autos and manuals, so PCMs are easy to use without the high cost of getting them programmed. 230 hp, 330 ft lbs out of the box, and very easy to turn up from there.

the 5.4 is just a big heavy beast! To much work to make it worth it. Pick up a 302 HO or do a 351. Or even the superchicken engine is sweet like bones has :)

You can make a shit ton of power with the 302/351 and make them reliable. Plus parts are very easy to find. Bolt up a c6 and never worry about blowing a trans.

Bones,

How hard to get to about 300hp with a 3.8 s/c? How reliable at that level and what do you use to for tranny etc....
