In theory I have everything I need to complete this swap except the fuel pump. I'm wondering if anyone on the board has tried to swap a truck to EFI. I've got the complete wiring harness, computer and all that. I even have the efi manifolds. I imagine this will take a while to do since it involves removing all the wiring in the dash and under the hood and then using the new harness.

If you've done this swap, are there any little things I need to remember before starting it? Will I need new fuel lines? What about pump location? does it need to be in the tank, in line or doesn't it make a difference?

Best is in the tank, thats where the stock pump is.

Mine was carbed at first, but since I swapped a body on from an EFI truck, I got the wiring that way. Later when I swapped in the EFI motor, it just plugged in and went.

Can I put an EFI pump in a tank from a carbed truck, or should I just switch to a fuel cell?

That does me no good if i want to drive any distance on the street.

what year 22r is it?

If it is pre 84.5 the manifold pattern is not correct and you will have to use a different head......you will either need one from an 83 or 84 celica 22re or the aftermarket one lc engineering sells.

I went through this whole ordeal......it was not fun.

It's an 85.

I don't expect it to be fun, but I'm pretty much forced to do it to get the best in crawling and street driving.

Not quite.. the mounting bosses showed up on the 1983 heads, but 3 holes weren't always tapped until late 83/early 84.

My 83 had the flat mounting bosses, but not all of the holes drilled. You can just drill and tap, if necessary. But sounds like they are all there.

I may pick up a running 22re for the swap and rebuild my 22r over the winter. My wrist pin rattle is getting kinda bad and I don't want to waste all that time swapping stuff to blow the engine a week later.

I was surprised at how long my wristpin lasted. She was a noisey one too. Roadhouse can vouche for it. It never did let go as long as I owned the truck too.

Well, my carb sucks and I can't idle most of the time. I have to attack hills with full-throttle. This would just fix most of my problems and potentially create a huge new one.

Ok.......well mine must have been an early 83 cause everything was off. I simply used the head from a Celica and all was good
