This thread would have been way to boring, if I just would of said. “Oh thank you kickstand, for leading me down the path of righteousness, I will buy the fullsize truck”

Then everyone would cheer, and high five each other. The beer would flow, there will be dancing. Someone would get too drunk and fall off their wife’s shoulders and knock the other tooth out. I would have to drive everyone home because I don’t drink anymore. Which would be fine because I will have a fullsize truck, instead of a stupid Canyon.

I drove a 15 coloraydo last week.. I really liked what they did with this truck vs the last generation. More refined for sure. The 3.6l is very adequate for power. I did a quick 10 mile test drive loop and got 25mpg in that loop on the computer. My experience with GM fuel mileage computers is they are accurate. With that being said it was $35k for sticker, no rebates, and with GM discount it would be about $35k OTD....same price as a new ram. I love the size of the coloraydo, but cant justify the price. If this were $25k I would be all over it....time will tell...prices will drop is my guess. GM did good on the vehicle, now time to drop the price.

I thought I saw somewhere that the coloraydo might get a duramax 2.8l. As much as I think diesel trucks are hard to justify because they are more expensive then the fuel savings allows for....that could be a good sell to dumb people.

A small truck, with a diesel, that you would have to drive 1,000,000 miles to justify the sticker price of, compared to a similarly priced more capable half ton gas truck.

Its only going to cost like 6k more lol

According to GM, the first generation Duramax engine in a 4×4 Colorado provided the fuel economy of 25.57 mpg, while the new generation is expected to be 6 percent better.

compared to the 24 highway mpg and let's say a real world mpg of 22ish?

25.57x1.06= 27mpg.

so let's say the diesel has a real world average of 5 mpg better? They didn't specify if that 25.57 was mixed driving or highway, but for the sake of argument let's assume mixed driving, and the 22mpg will be mixed driving in the gas truck.

100,000 / 27 = 3703 gallons of fuel.
100,000 / 22 = 4545 gallons of fuel.

At todays prices diesel is $1.17 a gallon more at my local gas station. It's averaged at least $.50 more over the last few years....

anywho 3703*$3.89 = $14,404
4545*$2.72=$12362

So my million mile estimate was a little exagerated. But it still takes you 300,000 miles to pay off the diesel upgrade. That doesn't include oil changes, it doesn't include maintenance and repairs outside of oil once the warranty runs out.

Even compared to a similarly equipped half ton truck the diesel is a hard sell for me. It may get better mileage, but the diesel repair bills and maintenance bills once you're out of warranty are far greater than a half ton with a 5.3 liter.

My brother likes these as well and also likes the diesel. Told him id much rather have one with a tried and true 5.3. The small diesel market doesnt seems to have had good results from any brands who have tried it. I think 15 years ago diesel was a solid choice, but with all the added bs these days, the cost to maintain is just retarded.
