Most of my vehicles I bought have been repairable totals. There just comes a time in your life to say "fukc it, I want a brand new truck".

I can respect that. What are your thoughts on a Tacoma? I built a double cab v6 auto 4x4 sr5 packaged Tacoma for $31,780 vs a crew cab v6 auto 4x4 z71 comparably packaged Colorado(I know, you're looking at Canyons) for $34,990.

When I had my Toyota, I remembered that certain parts were harder to get and more expensive. Could be different now thou. As I mentioned in the first post, GM has kept me employed for the last few years. Should I repay the favor? I should be able to get an employee discount also.

Yeah, it's still kinda the case. Further research shows that the Yota v6 doesn't have the power that the v6 in the Canyon/Colorado has. I think I remember reading that the towing ratings aren't as high as the Colorado either. Sounds like you need to pay a visit to your GMC dealer soon.

my buddy had an 07 taco 4 door 4x4 he bought new...he loved the size, 17-18mpg and decent for towing small boats. Then at about 105k miles the truck just fell apart...front end shot, transfer case shot, calipers, developed an oil leak, and started using coolant...he sold it after he did $2500 in repairs and just got a new coloraydo and loves it. Will see how this compares at 105k miles vs his taco.

I've owned one toyota. At 125k the motor locked up solid after spinning the rod bearings, they were wiped out pretty bad on all 4 cylinders.

I was always under the impression that the 22re was supposed to run forever.

The tacoma still is the king of the midsize truck (from a sales perspective) but I am not sure I could ever own one.

I do like the idea of a midsize or even "compact" truck, and geardrives intended use is good, unfortunately as has been proven the cost and lack luster fuel mileage don't really make them worth considering.

It's a gamble and I'm the last one to buy a Toyota...but even that 2007 that was mentioned is 7 years old now. Considering the current Tacoma generation has been out for a while, I'd bet the bugs have been worked out by now. That said, trucks have come a lot way in 30 years. Heck, they've come a long way in the past 10.

The current generation (05+) Tacomas are not the truck the 95.5-04's were...
. I have owned 2 of the first gen Tacomas and they were the best trucks i have ever owned hands down. They cheapened the current gen up a ton

Mine was a 92, I actually liked the truck, but it died, had a paper thin frame, and was gutless.

I'm not surprised a 30 year old truck in michigan has frame rot issues....
I think it was around that year model they had a frame recall on those trucks. They would test the frame by hitting it with a ball point hammer and if it failed Toyota would cut you a check for blue book value in perfect condition, actual miles of course. One of my coworkers had an extended cab 2wd that failed and they gave him something like $5200 for it. He took the check and bought a 4 cylinder TJ with it. That was 3-4 years ago though.

The frame on the TJ probably isn't much better by now. :teehee:

Why would you spend $30k on a new truck to beat it up in the woods when you already have a comanche, a trailer and a 4wd tractor?
I should of pointed out the fact too that, my property is 35 miles away from my house. So I can't just use the tractor from the woods, up to the house.
