After a losing battle, ive decided to part my mountaineer. Tried for one more winter, but after spending significant time underneath making repairs, ive come to the conclusion the body is no longer road safe. Its a shame, solid frame and drivetrain but a majority of the body mounts and rails are beyond repair. probably the most reliable vehicle ive ever owned, and ive owned many. 734
2000 mercury mountaineer 4.0, auto, automatic awd
235k, timing chain noise at idle (started end of last winter) trans shifts great, awd works flawlessly. Replaced fuel tank, radiator. Bought tensioners to replace worn out ones. If you want anything let me know, planning to keep rear end and tires but that could change. 474
I will eventually be looking for a clean, rust free explorer/mountaineer as this one was so amazing. Running, driving, or a roller i could part together. Thanks, Mike 8192
