Undertaking a new bdmt project. I can't get away from the full sizes :sonicjay: hoping to have it done by the reject run, or at least functional...

My nephew Timothy who isn't afraid to get dirty, my bro in law Derek who like going wheeling with me, and my wife are all a big part of this build.:beer:

Plans are, pull the axle off the 00 Silverado and use just about everything from that to get this going. 3 link front, use my old radflo coilovers unless i can scrounge up enough pennies for new fox shocks.
Shorten the rear end up by 26 to 30"
Install my underdrive with the Ford 205 transfer (Mr. Hyde is building this for me) behind it.
Have 1420 drivelines made.
Get the winch from the other truck installed.
Maybe do a 4 link in the rear if i have time... not so sure this will happen though lol
Run the 37's off the other truck, but set this one up to stuff 40's because that's the end goal

How it looked when i brought it in the shop

Pulled the box and trans. It's getting a 6l80e since there 6l90e isn't 4x4 and have weird ass spline counts. Mr. Hyde will be rebuilding the trans for me.

What it looked like after the second night in the shop.
Pulled all the front suspension off. Makes things a little easier to access.

Just had to throw the spare under it to see what I'm dealing with.
Looks pretty sweet if you ask me.

 Looking forward to seeing this build.
hell yea, definitely want to follow along with this one!!!
Thanks guys! I'll try to keep the thread updated. I need to make quick progress. 7 weeks isn't a very long build window lol
I'll figure out the pics tonight when I'm on my PC. The phone and Flickr aren't exactly cooperating for some reason.

Maybe I missed it, but if you are pulling parts off the other truck, what is the end plan for that one?
Part out after i cannibalize what i need.
5.3, harness and ecm will be going
4l60e
Driver drop np241
78, 10.5" 14 bolt rear with disc brake swap
Are all the good parts. Body is about shot, but i have some good fenders
Interior is beautiful in it though. I may steal the seats for this truck. They are comfortable compared to the work truck seats.

Got my buddies plasma working. Makes cutting the ifs shit off a breeze. Took about a half hour to cut it all off. Just a few more things to cut then gotta make some decisions.
Thinking real hard about my plans to make the reject run at R+V for the 24th of January. It's looking like a pipe dream at this point. I'm thinking I'll keep the other tuck together and put drop in cam from Summit racing in. Rebuild the trans I have sitting on the floor, and make both the reject run and the snow snake hill climb. This will satisfy the lacking of power for me, and make my lady happy because she really doesn't want to miss the race. It was a great time last year, and she wants to make a bit of a tradition of it. I have no qualms about that.
So back on to this truck, would you guys keep the stock frame, or put new rails from under the cab forward? I'm looking to lower the ride height and get more bump travel out of it. If I went new frame rails, what would you use? I think 2 1/2x4x3/16 tube is plenty. It will give me almost 3" more to play with. I would raise the engine 3" and move it forward 2 or 3".
The other option in my head is to section the bottom of the stock frame 2 or 3" and plate it. Still move the engine up and forward the same as described above. I would also plate the outside of the frame rails to get a nice flat surface to work off. I've never undertaken building a frame, so the putting new rails in is a bit daunting. I know I can do it, jsut don't want to get bogged down by a giant change like that.

Got some things done. Mocked up the sd axle. Looks like with a frame notch, i can get it about 2-3 inches higher than in the pic for full bump.
Also got my wfo frame plates. They fit well. There bends are perfect.
Also relocated the steering box forward... it's not enough. I need 3 more inches to clear the diff.
My son came and helped me grind the frame last Saturday. Was a good day in the shop for us.

Need to make a bit more clearance for the tires to get lock to lock and full bump...

Going to address that asap. Also need to notch the frame for the diff hump to bump into on the inside of the frame.

Tires at full lock for viewing pleasure.

Going for 6" of bump travel and ~8" of droop.

Looking for a set of 1.75" shock hoops if anyone has a set laying around they don't need. Actually need 2 sets for both front and rear. I have a bender and can go buy some dom next weekend, but if any of you have a set not ear marked for a project, let me know

Plan for the new body mounts will be to inboard them using the old mounts. I will have to do some work on supporting the fenders as well. With as much as i cut off, they got a little flimsy...
