My King Quad keeps stalling when riding through the snow. It runs perfect in neutral, but as soon as i shift into forward or reverse and give it gas, it will bog down and die. If i leave it sit for a while (couple of hours at least) it will start up and drive again. i know it has to be something with the snow getting packed in somewhere and getting something wet, because it runs a drives perfect in dry conditions. Has anyone had this problem before, and what are some areas i can check out?

HMMM...did you check all hoses to and from carb. air intake, headside. airbox is good and tight, a snorkel somewhere didn't come loose, break etc???

It is known to me that some quads are built with open connectors(not weather sealed) if you look around the quad see if you have the style I speak of. if so un plug the connectors and clean if nessary with a rifle brush and pack with dielectric grease to prevent this happening. I would bet if you look around the steering colume or under the seat you will the culprit.

i have taken the body off, and gone through ALL connectors/connections, cleaned and put dielectric grease in them. i was thinking that maybe its a bad sensor???

I wouldn't know where? The most I can see an electrical problem in wet or cold weather is from either grounding out or heat/cold expansion/contraction. the idea being that a part could effectivly crush its own contacts in cold weather and short. it does happen after its been running and would lend me to think that its a heat issue or wet issue. have you pulled your cdi box and looked at the case to see if the paint has burned spots on it? its just a long shot, but you never know.

cdi is good.

another reason i was thinking a sensor was because when we had our first big snow fall of the year, i ran it and it never stalled once. About a month after that is when it started to stall on me.

will it start back up after it stalls if not check the spark if no spark then you have an electrical problem if you still have spark then its fuel or possibly the valves are in need of adjustment also drain some of your gas into a pepsi bottle and check for water

does it stall just after it gets warm? if so your choke might be stuck im a motorcycle mechanic and its hard to diagnose without being there. i just looked in a maual for that machine and there is not really any sensors that would stop it from running is your battery dead? if so your stator could be bad and that would cause it to run for a bit then stall, i would really go for a valve adjustment if is noisy

i can run it all day in dry conditions. i live on some back country roads with minimal traffic and was driving those for about 30 minutes the other day no problems. but as soon as i hit the deeper snow, then it stalls out. Its usually a 50-50 kind of deal if it restarts or not. Sometimes it restarts, but will only idle. If throttle is applied, it will die.

The quad only has 600 miles on it, so i dont think the vavles would need to be adjusted. plus they arent noisy.

Also, to clears things up, this is a Fuel Injected quad.

The last time it stalled, i towed up to the shop and checked for spark. It did have spark.

hey 89...hate to question you, but did you check all your snorkel tubing and other things related to air intake? just wondering? also, 450 or 700??tim

i would check all of your air intake hosing and housing for snow when water gets into the carbs it gotta get pulled out so its gonna take a while for the water to be sucked through so it has enough compound of gas and h2o to fire if theres to much water you end up with adead battery or sore leg lol but check you intake housing and stuff seal it all off and go at it again see if anything changes also check the boots on your cylinder from the carbs

well, i really didnt check them, but there is no water in the airbox. its a 700.
