not sure if I should have posted this in general tech, but here it is anyway...

just looked at this vehicle on the lot at a local Chevy dealer, and I have always liked the Land Rovers...vehicle is fully loaded, has 72K miles, and the price is right considering the minor body damage (mostly bumpers, a bit of scratches on both sides, missing trim around windshield on pass side)

but I really dont know anything about these vehicles. Anyone have experience with them? I was just reading some reviews on KBB, which it has an overall rating of somewhere around 3.7 out of 5...read several complaining of low resale value (doesnt matter to me, I would keep it for a long time) and some head gasket and window regulator failures, along with brakes wearing out quickly. I realize repairs can be expensive on one of these, but its not like I would ever pay for labor, just parts...fuel milage also sucks at 17 highway (rated), which I would expect for a vehicle like this...

btw, asking price is $7500, and other then the body damage I mentioned, I saw the drivers seat and door armrest has some wear, more then I would expect for that milage. The interior is about mint, other then that. There is also an exhaust leak around the left manifold, and the power steering reservoir is bubbling (?). Someone also did a poor job of installing a K&N type cone filter, which is held up with a zip tie.

The vehicle is loaded, leather, fully adjustable pwr front seats, dual pwr sunroofs, descent control, 6 disc CD, etc...

looking for any info here, looking to buy a vehicle very soon...was thinking something with better fuel milage, though...

I had a 04 and it was awsome until it hit 70,000 miles...after that it was one problem after another, so bad so i traded it in for an explorer and havent looked back...avoid the LR if you can help it
yea, I think I am going to pass on this one...between the blinking odometer saying there is a dscrepency in the milage, the low MPG, the high cost of repair parts, and the reviews I have read of high dollar brake parts, window regulators, suspension problems, and head gasket failures, I dont think the purchase price is such a good deal as I did when I first saw the truck

Go buy an 05-07 Grand Cherokee that is just as capable/comfortable for just a couple g's more without he reliability issues.
sorry, wont own anything Chrysler related...personal preference...

Thinking Toyota Matrix, Ford Focus, maybe Escape, or Chevy Aveo...need something with some room inside, and decent fuel milage...read alot of good reviews on the Matrix and Focus, but the Aveo seemed to have alot of transmission complaints

I've quit warning people about anything but the range rover, but they continue to buy, and they continue to become best friends with their service manager, so from now on, I recommend to everybody that they should buy a LR.

:teehee: Service Managers hate me and my 100k warranty.

A friend of mine has one and all he does is work on it. Wheel bearing=$450 He visited me a few weeks ago and all he did the whole time is work on that stupid thing. Get a Defender.
umm, not only is that the WORST POSSIBLE LR TO OWN for reliability, it is by FAR the most expensive LR to buy parts for. It shares virtually no parts with any other vehicle.

Very true but have have ya been in one? I kinda liked it but not for a DD. My neighbor leaves his out in the driveway with nothing to protect the inside because it has no top all 4 seasons of the year. In the end of all of this LAND ROVER'S SUCK

mine didnt like me...same reason!
I've had hardly anything ever go wrong with mine, though. Most times they find something when I'm in for regular service and its taken care of during the same stay. Think the only time I had to make a seperate trip was when an engine sensor threw a non-critical fault, which was no big deal. Overall, it has been the 2nd best vehicle ownership experience I've ever had with 62,500 miles logged in 3 years.:thumb:

lets see...drivers seat track(twice), rear main seal, smog bs, headlights blowing (nine in two years), seized fasterns, motor started making a wierd knocking noise like something you've never heard before and the list went on. The only saving grace is when i traded it in I didnt lose any money and was like I leased it for three years...like I said i liked up into the point it hit 70,000 miles there everything went to hell in a hand basket in a big hurry

Well, it should be noted that the two vehicles we are offering testimony about are significantly different beasts. Mine is a Jag-powered Range and you had a Rover-powered (Buick) Disco. The two vehicles might as well have been put out by two completely different car companies.

However, I will add that my 2003 BMW-powered Range was also a fairly trouble-free vehicle needing only a fuel pump at about 72,000. It didn't actually fail. There was a section of fuel line that had a kink which incurred an increased load on the pump.

In retrospect, I probably should have just kept the 03 and ran it into the ground since I bought it outright. After I got rid of the Pirellis that the PO installed and put some new silica-impregnated Wrangler HP's on it, it was just as awesome in bad weather as the Vredestein Wintracs I have on the 06.

honestly, I knew the LR was not a good choice when I was looking at it, just the cool factor got me a little excited about it...then I came back to earth, and started being a little more reasonable...

on my way out to look at an 05 Ford Escape with the V6 and 4x4, 77k miles, for $9900...just test drove a different Escape, same year, but just the 4 cyl and FWD, lower milage but more money, still really liked the vehicle, and it fits my needs much better...as long as there isnt any obvious faults, I'm calling the salesman tomorrow morning on the 4x4 Escape
