Stoopid fluid fell out of the front axle. I need to put it back in and work on keeping it in. Pictures to come when GL4x4 makes pictures great again.

New to me springs in the front. 14"250/16"150's. Not traditional but spring rates are spring rates and I don't go fast.

What rates did you move from?

I ran heavy up top for a while, but not long enough to see any benefits/disadvantages. Was also when the old jeep was a trail rig. My hope at the time was to have the rate go from the combined rate and jump up higher for last bit of travel.

Went from a 5lb tender/10" 185/14"350. It wasn't bad but it forced the rear springs to do a lot of the work. With the current setup it should ride at a 94lb/inch rate for a couple inches then transition to a 150lb/in rate for the last 3 inches or so. That's quite a bit lighter than the 121lb to 350lb rates I was at. We'll see how it does.

Front fluid/bolts replaced. Turns out you need the bottom one in the D60 and that's the one the rocks eat the fastest. Tightened up the drivers side front wheel bearing. Noticed the steering box is leaking badly last time out, it's still leaking badly. Didn't feel like playing in fluid yet so I just took it out to the field as is. Can't really tell if it rides better or worse because the farmer plowed the field and our usual smooth path. Tried pulling up on a tree to see if the front would do the work before the rear and ran out of gas half way to where I wanted to be on the tree. Fuel cell needs to be resealed so at least I got that reminder. T-case doesn't want to shift back to 2h now so I have to look at that as well. Basically it's ready to wheel except for the 20 things that need to be fixed.

I will attend to some of those 20 things this weekend. Definitely need the steering fluid to stay in the box, that's getting annoying.

Steering box seal replaced
Trans shifter rod replaced/modified/reinstalled

Changed the oil. Had a rock or 2 get stuck between driveshaft and oil filter. Didn't punch a hole in it thankfully.

Figured out why my t-case wasn't shifting. I've been asking alot of the midwest control supply push/pull cables for a while now. I'll need to add a little clearance to ease the angle for the shifters.

Spent a hour under a suburban at LKQ right before the thunderstoms hit saturday to get transmission parts. Alot of work for a $3 part(at lkq anyway).

I think that's supposed to be straight.......

Reinstalled

Needed to figure out how large of a diameter driveshaft I could fit so I built a little driveshaft simulator. Using a 79 hp D60, the pig is closer to the middle of the vehicle than the later model D60's. The 4l60E bellhousing/driveshaft is a constraint at full stuff. Even the 1" driveshaft simulator was going to be into it so I have a 2" spacer on the bumpstop on the drivers side to help keep it clear. I found that I will need to go down to 1 3/8" diameter to clear the shifter when the pass front is full bump and the drivers side is full droop. That's the tightest spot. Ironically, that's exactly how I put the vehicle on the stairsteps up at Looney to start my day so I literally started my trip in the worst case shifter clearance and bent it all to shit. At least we know exactly where the sparks were from.
My driveshaft is going to be 2" .120 wall for 8" then 1 3/8 x .250W for the next 16", then back to 2" .120 wall for the splines. I should have clearance, just not sure how long it'll hold up. Meh, whatever. Something else can break at any given moment anyway so why worry about it.

You know you're livin the stance life when you clear the pig for the oil pan...

Will be cutting the threads off the shifter ball and welding it. Need the space

Damn I could have saved you all that time at LKQ, I got a bunch of those shift rods in my parts cabinet.
