I have heard of people saying that their street legal sxs insurance was expensive, however I know someone with full coverage on a xp900 for $300 a year through State Farm. They are over 60 years old and have been insured there forever

To lazy to look, assuming quads are not part of this.

It's very specific about 4 wheel vehicles with straddle seats not being eligible

Is that street legal coverage, or just general insurance for an offroad SxS? Big difference there.

It makes no sense to me that motorcycles can be ridden, but none of this other stuff can be made to be street legal.

Street legal coverage. His is the only one that I know of that came back with a pickup title. Funny because 3 guys went down to get them street legalized at the same SOS. All 3 had new 2013 xp900s. One title came back 2013 assembled dune buggy. One came back 2013 assembled truck. Other came back 2014 assembled roadster. I think the SOS had no idea what was going on. I really don’t understand how one came back a different year?

I think it depends what happens when you get the title back. Same thing here, I have 2 buddies that have old expidite trucks that they use for hauling rock crawlers. One is a kenworth and one freightliner. One got titled as a rv/motorhome with $300 a year license plate. The other titled as a van with a $50 year plates

Section 217i. Paragraph (4), subsection (e)

Paragraph (5), subsection (c); prohibits ORVs with straddle seats, so no 4-wheelers, 3-wheelers etc.

Snyder signed it in December 28th 2018

https://www.michiganvotes.org/2018-HB-5639

SOS website still says they are not allowed though. My guess would be, the website is not updated.
@Bones

EDIT:

It is effective 90 days after it is signed. So March 28th, 2019

I doubt it as most rural counties have opened there roads to ATVs and everyone is just running free. Last Saturday nights bonfire over at my buddies house two thirds of everyone showed up in a SBS. The only one that would benefit from putting a plate on the back would be the state and the insurance companies.

Not to be a smart ass...but that's still considered a straddle seat lol

Wonder if you were to mount a regular sxs seat in it's place. Then it's not a straddle seat lol

My boss is on our local city board and I've heard him mention they are considering allowing what he calls "golf carts" on public roads. Not sure if this may include sxs at all but he already went out and bought a golf cart lol

My golf cart tops out at 18mph, even if it's legal, I don't think I would run it down the road.

It will just be on city streets. Mostly 25mph zones. I'm hoping all that's needed is a slow moving triangle. Boss is raising the speed limiter on his and i have an old 2 stroke Yamaha cart that's already decently fast. Would be cool to go grab lunch in a golf cart
