Default ORVs being considred back for On-Road Use

http://gophouse.org/house-approves-r...hZIk0o54gHy5V4

Quote:
The Michigan House today approved legislation introduced by state Rep. Brett Roberts to allow drivers of off-road vehicles (ORV) to use Michigan roadways after making certain safety modifications to them.

In the past, the Michigan Secretary of State issued titles to assembled vehicles and ORVs that installed certain safety accessories, such as windshields, turning signals, and horns. However, the department has since disallowed ORVs from being considered in the application process for road-worthiness. House Bill 5639 codifies previous Department of State practices by allowing ORVs to be registered and titled as street-legal.

“Many Michigan residents have invested thousands of dollars modifying their ORVs to follow the Secretary of State’s previous policy,” said Roberts, of Charlotte. “I’m proud to see that we are one step closer to restoring this policy, which will allow more Michiganders to safely share the road.”

House Bill 5639 advances to the Senate for consideration.
Hopefully this passes again.

For sure! It isn’t easy to get a decent rate on insurance now.

Yup. My Rhino was grandfathered when they outlawed them 2 years ago. My insurance dropped me and I couldn’t find anyone to insure me so I dropped it back to insured as an ATV.

Michigan auto insurance is the worst. I would vote for Hitler if he could fix our stupid no -fault system.

I'm currently shopping homeowner's insurance as well, AAA dropped me because the house is a modular. You think they would have noticed that during the inspection.

I have auto owners for truck and house. They were one of the few that would add a wood stove rider for the garage. Only an extra $40 a year.

I have auto owners and i just bought a small wood stove for the garage and i know i need need to call them but i was scared of how much they might jack my rates. Mine still might be higher than that cause my house is attached to the garage with a breezeway but there is a proper firewall between them

They give you a form to fill out for measurements of stove clearances, model number and what not. They said the main thing was the stove had to have a UL number.

My RZR is titled as an assembled pickup, and insured as such through progressive. never made a claim though.
you have to be careful what words you use describing it.
I usually call it a dune buggy at the SOS or when talking insurance

Mine Rhino was the same. It was about $700/ year thru AAA. When the law changed, they dropped me and I hunted around a few places. Everybody said they were no longer covering them and since it is a lot of money, I changed it back to being insured as an ATV.

For me to insure it for the monetary value of the vehicle it was over $300/ month.
I have just enough insurance on it to legally drive it on the street and that's $50 a month. currently it doesn't have a plate or insurance on it cuz it hasn't left the garage since October and if it does its going on a trailer to an off road area
so basically im gambling on losing my ass on it year round

I thought everyone found a loophole to register and insure them out of state? I cant remember which state or how that worked. Pretty helpful, I know.
