Default Crawlerado

2 years ago i stripped my old cherokee from the chassis down, plated it, and axle swapped it. from there i proceeded to destroy it. from there it got to the point where i thought it was getting to be unsafe.

ultimately i learned a lot about what worked for me and what i (think i) wanted. rather than doing a firewall buggy, i decided to set out in search for something new to build.

i wanted something that would be strait forward to drop an LS in. i wanted something a little more modern. i wanted something with the wheelbase to accomodate 40s. and... kind of wanted something different.

ended up settling on a 2005 colorado.

got it home, cleaned it up... and took a look.

cab cleans up well. bed has some bumps and bruises, but ill be cutting it up or replacing. interior plastic is good. carpet should clean up. seats are meh, but is getting replaced. chassis is about as spotless as you can get at 187k miles, im not convinced it was a michigan truck.

best part is... the I5 that is in it has the notorious head issue. so i got it dirt cheap.

also came with tires worth a few bucks, thatll help the cause once everything gets ripped out from underneath.

little recap...

the previously mentioned cherokee worked well... leafs out back. 3 link i designed out front. 1/2 ton axles, assist, 35s, and beadlocks. handled most things that michigan could throw at it.

then we went to tennesse and i started pushing it. it was apparent that the wheelbase and approach/departure didnt work well on steep climbs.

for some reason i love these two pictures...

then i got stupid... hot rodding around... and rolled it on flat ground.

honestly the jeep took it like a champ... rolled it over... pulled plugs. not a drop of oil. fired right up. proceeded to wheel it like this before calling it quits. in the end... she got stripped, parted out, and scrapped.

now its onto cleaning up the neglected garage and getting it ready for the new toy.

Sweet! I'm going to pay attention to this one. Looks like your build list is pretty nice.
What kind of beadlocks are you thinking? Diy, or off the shelf wheels with built in?
Just an fyi, if you haven't ordered it yet, the eco box has a long lead time. This is from Jon at jb fab.

Me too!

My only concern is getting that little Colorado on 40s to run safe and comfortable down the highway.

well i have a s10 blazer on 40's and beadlocks. I can cruise 60+ alright. Only thing is the full hydraulic is twitchy at speeds. If it was still assist it would cruise great.
Cool build man. Always nice to see something other than a jk or xj getting built.

got a line on a set of wheel/tires to work out the kinks once the axles go in.
eventually itll be trail ready wheels and a radial.

and thanks for the heads up on the eco box. i found a dirt cheap 241 that i plan to steal the guts from. first order of business is to get the motor/trans in and get the HVAC/electrical sorted out. and get some miles on it... ill throw the 241 in to make it driveable before canabalizing it.

yes. justin... good guy.

fun fact...

The GM upfitters will supply CAD files for newer vehicles if you put in a request to them using a personal domain email. (Not like hotmail, gmail or school email). CAD is what i do... so im working on getting the personal computer up to par so it can handle the large files. expect to see some CAD.

That's cool about them sending CAD files. That would be handy to be able to draw it all up if you have the tools.

Not to pry too much, but where are you headed in Tennessee?

Pretty good idea to run it some before doubler and stuff like that. Plus you'll know if the 241 is worth it.

I had heard that about gm before, but don't have a personal domain email. I'd love to get my hands on an 01 extended cab Silverado set of cad files.
