Cool. Interesting starting with a van chassis. Looks like it's going to be sweet

I was told it didn't get much stronger then an econoline chassis. I didn't believe it at first. I looked at all kinds of other frames and the econoline was a clear winner for what I was looking for to do a build. So far (knock on wood) it's been an extremely easy project, everything is falling into place like that's how I planned it.

I managed to make a door panel for it today. I was going to make both but when I tried to get the small dent out of the metal I hit it a lot too hard and completely ruined it.... It poured like hell and I gave up on it. Maybe this weekend I'll finish it and get them both installed. I have a feeling it's going to look good.

I'm going to be converting it from EFI to carb with an adapter plate for now. I'm contemplating making the adapter vs buying one. I have a lot more skills then money. Maybe after I run it a few times or winter comes I'll swap out the top end for some go fast parts.

Back at it again. I pulled the diff cover and welded the spider gears. Pulled the gas tank. Painted the diff. Cut 4 more inches off the back of the frame. Eliminated all of the brackets and nonsense that I'm not going to need. For now the back half is good to go untilI I get the kit to convert it from drums to rotors.
Having a problem with my daily driver so funds are gone for that.
Well see what I get done tomorrow

I pulled 4 leafs out of each leaf pack. There's still 5 per side, now it has a little bit of give to it. If I need a little more lift on it I can still use the air bags to lift the back up. By doing that I dropped the back end down roughly an inch and a half.

Before

After

It's not a huge difference but I can jump on the back of the frame now and it gives a little. Before it just laughed at me with absolutely no give in anything.

Here you can see the 4" I had laid out to cut off the back of the chassis the other day

Awesome build. My brother and I have a 49 willys pickup we have been working through for a couple years. I just love the looks of these things

Nice. I would have known I would have been happy to give you the old frame, tires and rims. I ended up giving them to some guy who happened to stop by while I had it out of the garage working on it one day awhile back. I still have the original door glass with frames that it looks like you need.

A little more progress made. The bends are far from perfect but for what it's for it will do just fine.

The bed is far from done but it's a good idea of what I'm doing and you're all up to date.

I tried as good as I cared to to match the patina in 2 minutes. I don't think it looks too bad considering I have no time into it. There is still no floor. I'm going to work on some sort of bracket to set the bed on tomorrow. Right now it's just resting on the chassis.
If I had to guess so the portion of the bed that I did make weighs a whole 12 pounds or so.
