Genright, welting rubber seal, is designed to go behind armor, to seal out moisture and dirt.

I leave my un sealed and take them off to clean every once in a while. If there are not 100% sealed moisture can get back there and then will be trapped for however long they stay on

Other then needing to regear the axles, I should be done with tear down. Now to finish weld/gusset/ clean up the frame. Paint it, then clean and paint the bottom of the tub. And reassemble.

I'm just wrapping up my 4.56 swap so I can let you know how that feels but I bet you will want to be a lot deeper with 40s

What's the highest stock ratio? 4:10? Do one of those Speedo deals and target a decent cruise rpm.

5.38 is your ratio.
4l65 with 5.38s and 40s, you get 2275 rpm at 70 mph.
that is figuring your 40s measure 39" actual.
that is the bare minimum gear for decent freeway rpm.
any less rpm is lugging the engine imho.

our od ratios are similar, i run 5.38s with 35" tires.
im 2550 rpm at 70 mph in od.

check grimmjeepers gear ratio calculator.

More torque than buggy and smaller tires with a 2.7:1 t case and future 3:1.....you know how the buggy is.

I agree with this. The LS motors like to rev. For reference, my friend had a Silverado with a healthy 5.3 and 4L60E with 36" tires that measured more like 35s, and I convinced him to go 5.13 instead of 4.56 or 4.88. He was worried it'd rev too much on the highway but in the end it was great. Awesome low speed performance and RPM were perfectly reasonable at highway speeds. I wanna say it was around 2400 rpm or so at 70. Hell, my stock 4.10 geared 2500HD revs higher than that on the highway. Based on that experience I'd go 5.38s without a doubt.

You want to gear it primarily for highway or off road? Are you going to keep the current transfer case or upgrade? IMO, do your calcs based on your future plans for low range wheeling. Then highway becomes what it is.............

A supercharger will fix any gearing deficiencies.
