Pretty excited, going shooting with my Air Force kid tomorrow. This should be interesting....he qualified expert marksman with all three firearms, M-16, M-4 carbine and M-9 pistol, i don't stand a chance. Doesn't help i'm left eye dominate and shoot right handed. Then its happy hour beers and a plate of nachos as big as my head, gonna be a great day.

Well 9/11. I'm sure we all remember where we were that day back in 2001. It sure doesn't feel like it was 18 years ago.

I had just graduated high school that May and was working full time for an automotive supplier while going to Macomb Community College. I was on the 3rd floor working in the controls group when someone turned on the TV in the conference room and we saw the second plane crash into the Towers. What a horrible sight.

God Bless America.

I was in Chemistry lab, and was released early because we were done. I was walking through UCEN where the TV's were always playing, but almost never the news. There was a crowd and the North tower was on fire. I watched the South tower hit live, I watched them fall live. I missed my classes that were ultimately cancelled anyway. I was standing next to Muslim students, that as soon as the second plane hit and it was a known terrorist attack were instantly fearful. One said "if they are Muslim this is going to get really bad" or something to that effect. They didn't show up to school for at least a week, several were acquaintances as we had been in classes together. We all stared at the TV for hours.
I remember the still sky's. They were definitely blue, but most notably there were no contrails. There were no sounds from the local airports planes that fly over the college and my home that is in the flight path. There was a stillness for days as a result. I remember wanting to help, but felling helpless. I remember I kept staring at the sky.

I still feel the terrorists accomplished their ultimate purpose that day. We are more divided than ever, despite a brief blip in time where we were more united than ever.

I remember as I was in 8th grade Art class.

The first thing I noticed was all the teachers started acting weird, coming and going, talking among themselves. After the first plane hit, every class room had a TV turned to the news on. Nobody was saying anything, we were just watching. They made the announcement over the loud speaker about an hour later that the schools were being let out at lunch. All we did during that time was watch the news. A lot of the kids didn't even understand what was going on.

I was in my jeep driving to work listening to Howard Stern who was simulcast on local radio at the time. I didn't normally listen to him, but whatever they were chatting about was interesting. They started coverage after the first plane hit and there was a general sense of confusion. I stayed listening since it was New Yorker coverage, and had more a WTF real feeling.

I was still on the way to work when the second plane hit. It went from how could a mistake be made and plane hit the WTC? to no way this is an accident, this is a plot. I think after that I switched to WWJ since it was obvious big stuff was going down.

When I got to work, people huddled up, trying to get news sites to load with latest info. At some point someone got a TV working in a conference room and we piled in to watch. I remember watching the towers collapse and it hit a new level. I remember lots of confusion about the planes that hit the Pentagon and flight 93 that crashed in Pennsylvania.

I went back to my desk and called my dad and sister as it seemed like no new info was coming in. My sister worked in Chicago near the Sears Tower and they were being evacuated since at that point the weren't sure if more planes were hijacked. It seems that at some point the managers sent us all home. I was in my jeep driving to work listening to Howard Stern who was simulcast on local radio at the time. I was at work. We have a TV in the lobby and the whole office staff stood there for the entire time. I honestly don't remember much more than simply being confused.

As I reflect back on it, there was a bonding in our country that we severely needed and we now sorely miss. One of the other striking things about that time was my opinion of President Bush. I know many don't like him for various reasons but he had the weight of the world thrown on his shoulders. No president before or after has had to shoulder that burden. I have the utmost respect for his actions that day when he insisted that he return Washington to address the nation from the Oval Office. His statement that the terrorists would not drive him away was the right thing to do. Even today, 18 years later there are interviews with his former staff members who all wanted him to stay safe and he said no terrorist was going to make him hide.

Those fuckers changed our way of life forever. 18 years later air travel still sucks. We have more dissension and hatred in our country than any time since Pearl Harbor. Now we have high school graduates who have no idea what really happened or the emotions that ran through all of us.

Finally, the first responders. The men and women that went into that tower knowing they wouldn't get out touch my heart. My daughter and her husband are both fire fighter/EMT's. It chills me to the bone when people criticize a first responder saying they are only doing it for the thrill. NO, there is a certain sense of duty that goes with them that is hard to understand. Without our first responders, our world would be a worse place.

Fuck the bitch that used her name reading to speak about the need for gun control. That shit was straight disrespectful regardless of your positions on guns. What a ignoramus.

I'm in a Star Trek group on FB that has a large number of young members that are too young to remember the events of this day. Many of them are of the opinion of "Big deal, capitalism kills more people every day, people need to respect my pronouns this wouldn't happen to a socialist country "

This country is over.

So you are a trekie?
Has your wife been wanting to go to Disney for the new Star Trek exhibit?

These kids today that seem to think socialism would be a good idea have been fed a lie in schools since elementary school. The teachers are the ones filling their heads with false information while omitting historical facts. An interesting experiment would be to send these kids on a field trip to a real life socialist country for about 6 months. They would come back and embrace everything this country has to offer
