Dave was really cool when I bought some stuff off him and sold his sister a car. Wish the best for him. Also sold Jeremy a car back in 2014, super cool dude too.

The judge asked him 3 times if he has had an issue with alcohol abuse in the past. He answered no all 3 times and avoided his chance to get a shorter sentence and be sent to rehab. He did it to himself and it wasn't a one time thing, it was an all the time thing. He just finally killed someone and he knew he was doing wrong every time he drove drunk. Therefore, Dave can go fukc himself.

No that's 29 months to 180 months for his sentence. He is up to see the parole board for his first out date in 29 months. He will probably be flopped by the board at least once so will do at least 54 months. Plus he will have to do a bunch of aa/na classes while in prison per a court order. If he fucks up again after getting out on parole he can be sentenced to do the rest of his 180 month sentence from this.
Prayers for all of them.

Wow, I guess I shouldn't be surprised at the sentence based on what happened, but dayum.

It's hard to sort out how I feel, as I knew both of them.

But to spend the rest of your life knowing you were directly responsible for someone's death.... and I can understand other's anger with him.

I met dave a few times and was a decent dude, but I have no sympathy for him at all!

My Nephew was killed by a drunk driver in 2004 and the guy who killed him did exactly 5 years but in a prison camp.

With Uber and lyft there is no reason anyone should drive drunk!

I know he has to live with it the rest of his life but it could have been avoided!

We all make mistakes in life but some can be prevented!

And I personally think the laws are not strict enough, If you kill some with a gun when you are drunk and it was a accident you get more time then this!

Ah, I see.

Yeah, losing my son hits hard sometimes. The stupid fucking Deadpool 2 movie had me incapacitated for a week, we had seen the first one together and he was looking forward to the second.

Still have my son's car and motorcycle. No idea what I'm going to do with them. It's not like they are in the way, but I should sell them to someone who will actually do something with them.

My wife is a bit more sympathetic to Dave than I am. She thinks he should be on house arrest, because they both were drunk. But- that's not how the law works. He's getting punished for a stupid decision, a decision he was rather famous for making several times. I don't feel bad for him going to prison- I feel bad for him losing a very close friend.

Glad I got to know both of these guys on here. I've made the same bad decision before. I'm sure many of us have. Sad to see it go this way. Thoughts to all involved.

I'm struggling with it a little, I've known Dave 20 years, but we had not hung out in a very long time. We still frequently chatted on FB. I met with him after the accident. He definitely worried me, because he definitely seemed on the edge of suicide. He also was 100% planning on taking whatever sentence he got, he did not want it to be easy it seemed.

He described that night to me, and what the dinner tabs were including food, and based on the bar/restaurant bill amount I found it hard to believe he was drunk, but it could have been cheap drinks I guess.

It makes me sad, two lives ruined that day. I also spoke to Jeremy's mom at the funeral, she was stronger than I would be.

The decision he made is the same one everyone has made here, hell all of our M&G's were at bars, and every time someone would be shit faced and drive and no one said a word - even in the Michiganjeeper days. I know back when I vacationed with him up north we took turns drinking so we had a DD, but it's been a long time.

My aunt was also hit and messed up pretty bad by a drunk driver, but I don't wish this on anyone.

Many people don't realize this, but you can still be charged with impaired driving without being over the legal limit, even without an accident. You could blow a .02 and if the officer thinks your motor skills are compromised, or even just reports it as such, bam you're arrested. Hell, you could blow double zeros and if they claim you drove erratically, slurred, your eyes were bloodshot, whatever, they're taking you off for a blood test instead. It's all very subjective obviously and they're equipped with the key words to cover their tails whether right or wrong. Then it's your word against theirs and yours will rarely win. If it sticks and you were under the legal limit you won't get a full on DUI(I forget what acronym they use for impaired vs intoxicated) but it will still be very costly. I don't know what Dave blew, but given the situation, even if he was under the legal limit he'd still get raked over the coals with anything in his system. You drink alcohol or take drugs and get behind the wheel, no matter how careful, and you're taking a risk.

I'm reserving judgement, I didn't know the guy and I don't know nearly enough details about the situation. It sounds like the guy had made plenty of mistakes over the years, as have most of us, but I have no idea what the circumstances were on that night. Maybe he did something stupid, maybe he just got very unlucky. Either way he obviously feels responsible and will be paying for it for the rest of his life. There was already a judge and jury involved in this case, no need for us to do it with 10% of the information.

Simple....don't drink and/or do drugs and drive.

pretty fawking simple to me. one or two beers, sure that's a difference than 5 or 6 in the last 2 hours and then driving. Don't be a fawking wack off and go just because "you're good".

Your word should never win in that argument. You shouldn't even be in that situation where your ability to drive appropriately is in question. If you're not sure, then don't f-u-c-k-i-n-g drive. Is the world going to end if you don't drink? Are you going to die if you don't drink? Is it a matter of national security that have absolutely have to be at this party and drink, and absolutely have to drive yourself? No. The answer is No to all of that. You're a fawking asshole dick-bag that decides to put yourself and others at risk because "you're good".

Now, Dave, will have to live the rest of his life with the consequences of those actions. Regardless of any BS stuff the legal system can do, that pales in comparison for him having that guilt.
