my plan is th350/205 and i have just accepted stupid low axle gears. i like high wheel speed wheeling but im going to be running 37's with 5.13's so that low range calculates out lower than my ax5 231 setup on 35's with 4.10's is currently. and 4 high ends up right between my current 4 low and 4 hi in my xj. which is perfet cause currently 4 hi is totally useless

I am too poor for high wheel speed wheeling......my current crawl ratio is 100:1 which is nice but too low for my only ratio....the nv4500/205 will be ~60:1 which should be nice with the new power.

wow u are low right now.
im currently at 44 low 15 high lol 350/205/5.13 puts me at 25... holy crap time to rethink this plan..... id love to be around 15-20 in high and around 55 in low i must have calculated it using the 3:1 low range ive been seeing as an aftermarket option for the 205 but dang its expensive. i think at this point i may just adapt my 231 to the th350 and run it for now. okay back to the drawing board on that one |

Yeah you can always put a 700r4 first gear in your 350 and it'll take it down to about 30 for you crawl ratio. Even with a doubler and stock th350 gears you would be at like 60. With more power and an automatic you don't need as low of a crawl. Plus v8s don't rev to the moon like the 4cyl do. However my ranger is 100:1 and I love it. And I can still pull midrange good with the 4.10 and 36's. High is ok for around town. Planning on a sbc swap soon and I think i'll have to use a doubler. I love the midrange.

true todd you climbed real nice and smooth even on the old setup. i kinda like the ratios im seeing with the 700 first gear and using my np231. sad part is ill need a different front axle

i just adapted my stick to work kinda nicely. for this summer the most likely conclusion is switch to the toyota trans and tcase that i have for the little bit better low range. i am really beating on it hard right now to do some of the hills im attempting. so switching running gear and axles to the 5.13's even if i keep my weenie 4 cyl should make it crawl much more better

Picked my nv4500 up yesterday. Having a little trouble finding a 205 but i am sure i will come up with one.
Looks like i will be stuck changing oil pans to a shallower one and swapping to a car intake to get the motor to fit like i want. The oil pan is no big deal since i wanted a baffled steel pan anyway but the intake sucks....from reading it seems ls1 intakes suck and will cause the motor to loose hp/tq so i was looking at ls6 intakes which are $$$....i wish the dam truck intake would just fit ![]() |

Finally found a reasonably priced round pattern gm 205
![]() Will be doing intake, exhaust manifold and oil pan swap in the next few weeks so motor is dressed and ready to go. Trans is ready to go. Gotta swap inputs in the tcase and order a clocking ring the i can attach it to the trans. I am also about 95% set that when the engine swap happens the entire body structure in front of the cab will go away and be replaced with tube. Something like this ![]() ![]() |

Looking into mounting everything...my big concern is supporting the heavy ass tcase....ran across this which looks like it would work perfect for me. Thoughts?
