I've been looking but I don't want to take contract work and I'm having a hard time trying to find Mech eng work around Lansing. I've been applying to everything that seems like a good fit, but with this damn economy and us not wanting to move it seems like that is few and far between.

That being said. I posted this over on Pirate. https://www.pirate4x4.com/forum/gene...l#post44560688

She Facetime'd with my kids daily and talked with my wife multiple times a day.

Survived breast cancer once a few hears back , chemo took her this time when she got it a second time.

This last week has had all the life sucked out of it. My wife, even on Lexipro, Xanax and Ativan jumps from happy-ish to a blubbering mess so fast it will make your head spin.

Hug your loved ones if you can.
The funeral is at the Engine house in Clinton Twp tomorrow. Its a bar if you don't know, which should tell you alot about my inlaws. Seriously though my MIL hated funeral homes and said instead of being all somber and sad, put her at the bar and tell funny stories and make people laugh. This should be easy to do as she'll be in an urn. Don't know how my oldest will take it as he still wanted to face time with grandma last night, but we'll make it through.

Saying that, I've always had a think about work while working here. It seems like everything is at Defcon 1 as far as projects go even if they are fixing a redlined print. I actually know I get 3 days bereavement and used a half day last week to see her off. I still have 2.5 days on the books. I felt bad about using them as I know my boss will use that to add more stress later on. I actually felt bad about using them this week. Even now I have some anxiety over it. I shouldn't feel bad about taking some time off, but the environment here just makes you do so.

I don't know what you mean when you say "this damn economy" I'm in automotive and we are booming.

Sorry for your loss. That is terrible to hear. My prayers go out to you and your family.

I like the Engine House as well, but I haven't been there in a few years. Do they still pass out jello shots when the train goes by?

By "This damn economy" I mean right now there is a shit ton contract work in Lansing that I've seen, but not many non-contract jobs. To me that screams everyone is worried about the economy and wants the ability to downsize quickly if need be. I'd love to find another full time job over contract work because layoff suck. Where I work we just had one. All of our contractors and alot of the IT guys are gone because apparently no one wants straws anymore. They also want their single use Starbucks or Bigby coffee to instantly biodegrade as soon as its drank.

It would blow their fragile little minds to find out that the "strawless" lid you get from Bigby actually uses more plastic than the previous lid+straw and they now ask you if you want a straw.

This may make the funeral a little bit more fun.

This was life at my last job. Ran into my old boss and co-worker at the gas station last week, CHS still hasn't hired a programmer to replace me. I said I feel like e-mailing them and thanking them for firing me, I now work fewer hours for more money, and no more travel, plus the health insurance is cheaper and better at Mueller.

Didn't get to have the lemon pepper salmon, but the spread they gave us (Pizzas, Salads and cheese plates) were pretty damn good. it was a great place to have a send off. It definitely makes me rethink what I'd want done when its my time. Everyone was happy and cheery even though it was a memorial.

Unbeknownst to me, my kids were mini-celebrities there because she talked about them all the time at work. I don't think I held my kids for more than 20 minutes of the 3 hours we were there because they were being carried around by friends we trust. It was odd to have people in a bar go "where are your kids?" for us to reply "Over there somewhere." and not think twice about it. That's the joy of good friends and family though.

Yea... I took off Wednesday, Thursday and a half day Friday for Bereavement. Like I said I have had some anxiety about it, but nothing major. Yesterday (Thursday) I checked my email just in case because I was thinking about taking a whole day Friday. Turns out one of my rotary projects walked on its bearings 5/16" and no one knows why and our machine shop for the life of them can't make something with out +/-.015 tolerances when we usually hold +/- .0002. Needless to say my stress level jumped a little during my time off. I took the kids to the zoo after that to get our minds off of the funeral and work so that helped things.

Hey ckupq, sorry to hear about your MIL.

I have an engineering recruiter that does Detroit area, and may have connections to Lansing area if you want his name & number. I haven't talked with him in a few years, but I see he's still on linked in.
