Default Wrangler sales dropping

From jalopnik today, they said that Wrangler sales have dropped 25%. What's your theory on this?

Most companies are seeing a weakening market, but this drop is larger than others. Is it because they are still ramping up the new model? Or is the new model just not selling as well?

Quote:
FCA reported a 6.1 percent decline, with an increase in Ram sales offset by weaker Jeep deliveries. Volume dropped 4.4 percent at Toyota Motor behind lower car sales, while deliveries rose 0.1 percent at American Honda, 0.7 percent at Hyundai and 9 percent at Nissan Motor Co. April snapped a 3-month skid for Nissan.

Sales at Jeep, FCAís biggest division, have now slipped four straight months year over year. In April, Wrangler demand fell 25 percent and Cherokee volume dropped 13 percent.

People started realizing they've been paying 50k for a Jeep without a v8?

We looked at a wrangler back in 2016. Why spend $40 k on something that is noisy, drafty and rides rough when the Cherokee trail hawk has basically the same driveline, rides better and is quieter?

I seriously thought they would have learned after the Plymouth Prowler that some things need a V8 available.

We looked at a new Rubicon for a while. Turned out it was cheaper to buy a lightly used Enclave and an old Jeep for a trail rig. Enclave is 102347236587425% nicer than the Rubicon in every possible way for daily driving, and cheaper.

We get, you want a V8 Wrangler... It's not going to happen.

I am looking forward to the diesel Wrangler, but not the price.

I'm not buying either, I'm cheaper than the leftovers from a bluelight special. I took home used ATF the other day.

But I'd like to see both a Hemi and diesel wrangler option. Hemi seems like it would sell better though.

it dropped 25%? So they haven't figured out that people don't buy the first year chrysler yet? Year 2 usually when the get the bugs worked out. I'm betting people are looking at the problems that are cropping up already and going "Nope wait 6 more months."

Who wants to spend >$35k, only to be stereotyped with the JK owners who plaster their vehicles with Fab Fours bullshit? Yea, it might not happen overnight but once the buyer adjusts to their new car mortgage the discretionary income will eventually be spent on angry eyes and a cow catcher. Slippery slope. every. damn. time.

It hasn't needed it for the past 33 years to sell.

Why? You wouldn't buy one anyway.

We looked at a new 2 door JL for the wifes car. Bought a 2 year old Audi Q5 Quattro Premium Plus with super low miles that is 100% nicer in every way to a jeep and at a lower price.

Interesting. I was wondering if they finally priced them out of their league.. seems like maybe they have.

I agree Jeeps prices are too high. Wrangler is definitely a rough road warrior for the price. Even Lexus RX 350 compared to Grand Cherokee is too close together. We are looking at trading off our 2014 GC after an alternator fire and fighting with FCG for the last 3 weeks. We have been buying Chrysler for 15 years and I am done. The real question is which one is any better?
