I also hoped, and I also have begun to give up hope.

Uhhhh...nevermind, couldn't say it better than Jim.

This site has so much info! I wish it'd become popular again and be allowed to be the amazing tool it once was.

I would say that I knew the people here that would argue with me . On Facebook, I have no idea who most of them are and they pretty much have no relevance to the conversation other then being highly opinionated. lolol I miss GL4X4

He has been a member here less than a year, so he has no clue how this place once was.

They all still check in to see what’s up. To see if it coming back.

Steveo, for example, was the proverbial train wreck. Of course he was outrageous and said heinous things to see how far he could push the envelope. People could not turn away and clicked in to see the responses.

The old forum prospered because moderators moderated with moderation. Unless you were posting nuclear secrets or porn it was pretty much anything goes.
It was the internet version of the neighborhood dive bar.

This is probably the best example in the history of examples.

I enjoy a good dive bar (in fact they're all I frequent) and I enjoy this site.

I miss the GL4x4 of old! Not just the tech, which has guaranteed helped hundreds of us out in the past. But I also enjoyed the banter in the pub, and for the most part it was mostly limited to the pub and not all the other areas.

Correct. Most of the time things stayed on topic and a lot of us learned, and helped others learn a lot of things. Now not so much, but there are still knowledgeable people here that might be able to help a fellow member every now and again.

I too wish the site would return to it's former glory, sans the pricks. I've met a number of said pricks and whilst not sitting behind a keyboard they were really cool people.. Just putting on a show really.

Actually as of recent I have had some super good experiences - sold a 10K+ Jeep and made a friend out of that. Some newbie punks bashing prices in the market place and several people came to aide. So it's not dead, just kinda circling the bottom of the bowl for a while.

And yeah, some of these newbs have NO idea the outright torture this site used to produce. It was enough to make even the biggest tough guy pee his big boy computer chair.

Again, to the OP. Who did you used to be?

This place has always been good, unless you where someone who tried to "battle" on here. Then you would get bullied and pummeled....

Amazing tech here. Some super smart people.

This...I have forgotten more about D60's than most people know. And Rockwells, is used to know part numbers for the Toyota calipers and Mazda rotors for the pinion brakes. Now im just an old newbie.

Yup. The knowledge for sure, and camaraderie that spilled over from the Michigan Jeepers dot com days. I learned so much, helped so much, did so much and met so many people at random meets and greets. Now, I don't know if anybody knows what a M&G is anymore. Or a wrenchfest.
