Well today the motor is officially in!
![]() ![]() ![]() Here is the clearance to the heater box. ![]() And the Canton oil filter adapter is dam close to the steering box but it fits. ![]() So to get to this point I had to throw the James Duff instructions away and figure it out on my own. They want you to measure off existing holes in the crossmember to drill new holes for the v8 mounts. The driver side kinda made sense since there is only one hole for the original motor mount stud. The passenger side however has like 5 different holes and they dont say which one to measure from. Well after hanging the motor in place I decided to not drill the holes where they wanted them because it looked like the motor would be to far back. On the driver side I removed the track bar mount bolt that went through the original 2.9 motor mount hole and bolted the v8 mount through that hole. Done. So on the passenger side this is the original mount hole that I assumed they wanted the measurements taken from. ![]() This where their measurements got me and the hole I was suppose to cut. ![]() And instead this is the hole I drilled. Its 2" down and 1" rear of the original hole. ![]() I then slotted it upwards another 1/2" so I could have some wiggle room. This is where they ended up. ![]() So not where Duff intended I dont think but motor sits in there perfect. The oil pan sumps are centered over the cross member also so we will call it good. So now this is where I am as of tonite..... ![]() |

Good day today.
After rolling the axle under truck I could clearly see the engine cross member would need some trimming. Handled that today by chopping off most of the two lower lips then cut a plate out of the old tcase skid plate to box it. ![]() ![]() Then I bolted up the arms and started measuring for the frame brackets ![]() ![]() Got it on the wheels! Holy shit its tall....but, no interior inside, no trans,no tcase,no bumper, etc. Im sure it will drop as I keep adding more weight to it so no worries. Coils are pretty soft and I can lean on it and drop it 2-3" ![]() ![]() ![]() |

![]() After a couple days of cutting and torching I got all the rear suspension out of the truck and the Skyjacker Softride leafs with Belltech shackles are in. I cut off the shock mounts and perches off the 9" and right now its hanging up letting the fresh chassis black paint dry. ![]() ![]() I also made a discovery. I mentioned above that when I installed the drivers side coil bucket and track bar mount I needed to add a spacer and longer bolts because it looked like Duff hadnt thought about these parts being used together. Well when I was digging through my pile of parts from Ballistic I found one small random bag and when I opened it I found some parts obviously from my Duff pile. ![]() So I want to stand corrected I also dug out the mustang seats and a center console I have been sitting on for a while that was made for a different project that didnt work out. Looks like it should work nicely in this truck. ![]() ![]() ![]() Last edited by deathbypsi; January 18th, 2018 at 03:09 PM. |

![]() I now have all the original fuel system out. Tank sprung like 4 leaks as I was pulling the skid plate and straps. What a mess. 20 gallons of 12 year old fuel and now my shop smells like a meth lab. Ripped all the lines off too since Ill be replacing them and it makes it easier when I start welding in the new floor pan and rock sliders. I bought a 90 gas tank and single in tank pump sending unit set up for it. The skid, tank and straps all got cleaned and painted today so they will be ready to go in as soon as I finish the floor pan. Hope to have floors done this weekend and start installing new fuel system and plump the brakes |

Slow progress but I have the driver side floor patched up now. Drilled out the spot welds in the braces on the bottom side of the floor pan and removed all of the pinch weld from the tunnel to the A pillar. The new pan didn't cover all my bad spots so I had to hand make a few pieces to get it all.
