So what other D44 could it be if not an import?
@Tab, do you know where he had the axle work done?
I do not. I asked him the first time I worked on it, at least 6 years ago, and I thought he said a shop down state. I don't think it was Unlimited as I believe he had the work done before they were really around. I can text him tomorrow.

Usually 90's and later front end B.O.M.'s start with a 61 (ex. 611297 is from a 03-04 TJ Rubicon). If you have any luck finding that number let me know, and I will happily dig and see if I can get you anymore info on it. If it is an import housing and the number comes up as a dead end, worst case I can always call our source through Dana Tech, and see if they can uncover anything additional also.

Can't find anything on the tubes front or back but there is the casting number that looks close to what you describe.

And it's definitely a hi pinion

With the DanaVen stamping, it sounds like an XJ HP44 imported from Venezuela, probably purchased from Currie.

It's obviously not a D60 so I can appreciate you getting accurate information prior to replacing it.

It's looking that way.

Did you notice the tires on this rig? No need for a 60. This is my DD with the ability to do some decent mild wheeling like Snofari or the dunes.

It's actually set up pretty nice. D44's, ARB's f/r, 4" lift, 33's, Warn bumpers f/r & 8k Warn winch.

This is fun. It's been a while since we've had a good "What axle is this" that isn't full of people calling a Dana 30 front a Dana 35 or Dana 40.

Dana tech wasn't much help, he said those numbers do not come up anywhere for him. He did tell me though that their current system only has listings for US based axle builds. Offshore/overseas apparently are locked out of their data base for some unknown reason. He asked the other guys in tech, and they had heard of the DANAVEN stamping though. They also mentioned that some companies were importing them and relabeling/selling them as their own builds. So I think you may be on the right track that it at was point purchased over here as a "conversion". Sorry I wasn't much more help for you.
