2500hd 6.0 wheeling rig build

looks like y'all have a great group of people here, i am glad to join and share my new build i am starting, and i am sure i will be asking lots of questions.

so i bought a rolled over 2004 2500hd 4x4 6.0 truck and plan to make it a wheeling RIG, plans so far are to chop the front suspension off and sas 4 link with a superduty dana 60 hp front axle. rear plans are 4 link and shorten wheel base and frame a little.

going to remove factory t case and replace with clocking ring and a 241 C manual shift with fixed front yoke for 4 link set up.

i removed the rest of the windshield and straightened the roof back out good enough to set a new windshield in. that install went smooth for being my first windshield garage install. and cheap. purchased brand new windshield with two tubes of urethane for $55 out the door at john r glass in Madison heights mi.

picked up few parts this weekend for the build dana 60 hp superduty axle, 37-12.5-16.5 tires on the beadlocks, also ordered bunch of 4 link parts for the front end from ruff stuff specialties holiday sale, getting close to cutting front IFS off and mocking the new set up into place, still need to find some 14 - 16 inch used coil over shocks or cnc overtime nitro shocks, also need rear leaf lift springs about 8 inch lift, and will need gears for both front and rear end to match soon. and full hydro steering set up

siettas81 December 28th, 2016 11:37 AM

stuffed into garage last night, time to start chopping the junk IFS off her

I know a few people in this state with linked fronts. It's not that different...good luck getting a triangulated 4 link under the front without 12+inches of lift.

Some reading material
Look into the Chevy section for more linked nbs threads. There are quite a few. Reading these will make your build easier.

siettas81 January 3rd, 2017 05:58 AM

drew up and cut out a rock ring out of sheet metal to see what it will look like, when i decide exactly what i want to do i will but some 3/16 or 1/4 inch plate and cut all 4 out on my buddy's plasma table.

I don't know what happened to the build thread, but I'd look for more info on this truck. It was a well done and low 3-linked Silverado.

Reinforce that frame while its torn apart. They were known for cracking right behind the shock mounts. However that may not be an issue with a different setup like yours. Either way i still would for peice of mind and it wont take much effort. If you google youll find some pics of the exact spot

kevsCJ7 January 3rd, 2017 09:45 AM

Are you using the box or getting rid of it??

siettas81 January 3rd, 2017 10:13 AM

yup plan to reinforce frame going to start cutting cardboard templets out for mock up

what box ? like the truck bed or steering box ?

busyfixin January 3rd, 2017 12:04 PM

Cool, a build thread from a new member with what appears to be a phenomenon called "ambition". Exciting stuff! Looking forward to the updates.

siettas81 January 3rd, 2017 12:11 PM

Yeah I am trying to get good info from all you veterans and get it built right the first time !

I guess, i need a better definition of "low" that thing looks to be lifted at least 12" before putting tires on...it's very nice though.

SHARPMACHINE January 3rd, 2017 12:58 PM

Welcome to the sight....

I was trying to attach the bdmt build that strangler did years ago, but could not find it...

This might be worth reading though.

Ok, found the thread on pirate from the original build. Chopperman built it with 6" of lift compared to stock. Somewhere in there he said you might be able to get away with 4" if you made some other compromises. Either way, super clean execution.
