you might be in over your head. detoxing off smack is terrible, and dangerous. take him to a hospital, they are trained to handle this.

you have detoxed too? or you are the one who has to detox him? seriously dude, your friend could die if he isn't detoxed properly. you cant just cold turkey him, you need a heroin substitute, and you give them smaller and smaller doses until they are back to normal.

Your gonna want him in a hospital. The worse thing to deal with is someone going through detox.

good luck man, old friend of mine has been fightin h for several years now. Hes been throuhg several out of state 90+ day rehabs only to come back and reuse within a week. he also moved onto crack. Best advise I can give is to not trust him for shit and do not help him with anything aside from rehab (even then he will just meet new connections) when they are using they dont see you as a friend they see a means to get high. not many people recover from the hard shit, it really get in their heads, once they get that first high they basically devote the rest of their life to getting that same feeling, which of course never comes. Kicking him onto the street was the hardest thing I ever did but looking back I never should have taken him in. best of luck

Depending on the addiction, often medication is necessary to break the addiction. Certain drugs are psychologically addictive, some are physically addictive, and some are both. So you have to treat them differently. Heroin is one of the worst because it has such serious physical withdrawal symptoms (often addicts will only keep using it just to alleviate these symptoms).

Your best bet is to get professional help. Whether through a hospital or other means, but that is the best place to start. With heroin, usually go through methadone treatments.

Best of luck, seriously. It's a pain to deal with a junkie friend, and the relapse rate is pretty high, so you will need to watch him for quite a while.

During my 1-1/2 hour stay on the side of the road talking to the cops they told me her whole story. She got away from her Mom for a little while and went right back to it. It was a mess, her Mom showed up and the cops hauled her away. Something tells me that waking up in jail probably won't stop her from using again. Stuff isn't anything to mess with!

a person can die in detox from herion, but a hardcore alcoholic not detox'ed properly will die.
