Default The Store in Elm Hall

So, some of you may have heard on the news about "The Store" in little Elm Hall, Mi, and his new approach to gas prices. When I was paying 4.13 in Mt. Pleasant the other day, he was at 3.89, then dropped to 3.79 the next day(Tuesday I think). The Morning Sun wrote an article, Channel 5 news interviewed him, and finally, CNN apparently picked up a bit on the story too.

I made a delivery there today, and talked with the owner, Bob. He was telling me all about his new fuel tank system that tells him when he needs to order and gives the price. He adjusts when the shipment is delivered. Surprisingly, he is still making a profit off fuel at 3.79, which dropped .05 to 3.74 while I was there. He is out in the middle of nowhere, with little traffic flow, and is still making a profit .30-.40 cents cheaper than most other places. Mt. Pleasant just dropped to 3.99, still .25 more expensive......why?

Kudos to this man for not succumbing to the level of greed we see daily.

I know, and he is still making a profit off his fuel sales. He is .25 cheaper than Mt. P and .18 cheaper than Alma, kinda makes you think a little bit as to why a small gas station in BFE can turn a profit at a much lower cost.

When the article was wrote, he wanted the guy to leave his name and business out of it, just to say a gas station in Gratiot County. The reporter told him he should be commended for his actions, and put his name out there for people to know. He was doing it before the article as well, so it wasn't a publicity stunt either. His fuel sales are up, his indoor sales haven't really changed because most customers are getting gas and leaving quickly due to small parking lot/gas pumps. He expects the indoor sales to increase in the next month or so, as many customers from the area never knew that he had pizza and chicken sales, as well as his food prices being reasonable for the size of the station (no more than any larger gas station).

Good for him!

The lowest price I've seen on this cross country trip has been $3.79 and today we paid a whopping $5.09 at Yosemite. Needless to say I was a bit pissed...
