Default check your nuts

lugnuts that is.

had a weird clunking sound on the way to work this morning, went away when i braked...then it went away so i forgot about it for the rest of the day.

on the way home, it started getting really bad, then when i braked and looked out the window i could see my tire wobbling back and forth violently, and not being able to drive straight

turns out my lug nuts loosened themselves somehow? and ended up with one of these

also turns out my passenger side hub/wheel bearing assembly was almost done, luckily i checked that too.

luckily i bought an hp30 off someone here a while back and had some spare parts cause luckily i overtightened one of my caliper bolts and snapped it in half

i do have to go get my tire with a plug in it taken off the spare rim and put my good tire on it though, cause the stud holes on my current wheel got wallowed out really bad
weird how these things can decide to go bad one day.

cliffs: make sure your lugs are tight

just to be safe, i would reccomend that everybody welds their lugnuts right onto the studs, that way you will not have to worry about this situation happening to you

Done it twice, not that bad though. Remembered after a few miles once with no damage and got wobbly on 131 from GR to Big Rapids. Makes you feel like a real ass.

i had a set of the 5 spoke cast alum. jeep rims on my YJ years ago. had to carry spare box of lugnuts in the jeep. no matter what I did they simply would not stay on with those rims.

After I learned that lesson the hard way I started using a torque wrench to tighten my lug nuts. I also recheck them after a while. Discount Tire's web site has a list of vehicles & their torque for the wheels.
