The garbage man who comes down our street was driving up and down driveways looking for scrap steel in yards behind old barns, etc.
We had some old valves that were left behind by Consumers Energy - big valves - out in a pile under some brush by the road. He kept coming by and dragging them closer to the road like I wouldn't notice. 1 ended up by the mailbox. I knew it was him 'cause he kept leaving notes.
I was home alone that week so I enlisted a friend, we loaded up all the valves (with the help of the guy down the road with a bobcat) and make $1100 in 4 hours. 9920 lbs of valves we dug out of the mud.

It came with our property. Do property taxes count?

Dont tell your tax assessor,..........it should have been added to your personal property tax, if it had value.

I like puting pop bottles in the trash dumpster and watching the garbage guys pick them out its pretty funny. If anybody is a garbage picker and lives near silver lake and would like to make $20 on a sunday then let me know. My grandparents own West Michigan Sand Dragway which is 2 miles from the dunes and we need somebody to pick up garbage. My brother and I work there enough and have had to do it for the past two weeks and I bet we passed up $100 worth the cans each time. Im gonna have to agree with the kids leaving toys in the yard thing. Personally if you live in the city and you leave something on the public sidewalk your just asking for it to be stolen especially if you live in Jackson, Detroit or Flint town.

In Michigan, residential personal property is exempt from ad valorem taxation. Further there is a home-owners partial exemption allowable for a certain dollar amount of commercial personal property situated on/at the residence of the proprietor.

Michigan does not have the friendliest of tax climates, but thank God we don't have to deal with residential personal property, intangibles, and/or other crap that some other states enforce/levy.

I know a scrapper and he is not into stealing kids bikes or scooters. He does this as a second income to raise his daughter. He makes some great money doing it, usually 100-200 a night. not to shabby. I do not have a problem with them either. Living in Water(tucky)ford there is alot of blight and the scrappers are helping this out for sure. I am hearing that forclosed homes are being broke into now and people are stealing all the metal and copper. I personally wouldnt keep anything out that is metal.

Neighbor kids used to leave their bikes in my driveway when I lived in Warren.... told them and their parents not to leave them there.... once.
Next time, I drove right over them, problem solved.

Chewed out my son a couple weeks back for leaving the lawnmower and gas can out front- wasn't worried about the mower, but there was $20 of gas in the can!
