Default Garbage Pickers Piss Me Off!!

I can't stand garbage pickers. We get the same guys going around every week trying to find scrap metal. I know times are rough and scrap metal is high but some of these guys are just complete assholes. My 7 year old came in the house a little while ago and told me that his scooter was gone. He parked it on the sidewalk at a neighbors house and when he came out it was gone. I found it really hard to believe that a neighborhood kid took it but I thought anything was possible. I started riding my bike around looking for it and after about 10 min I stoped to talk to a neighbor that was out. He said he saw a garbage picker putting a scooter in his truck. I drove around for 30min looking for that jerk but lucky for him I didn't find him. I did let the police know what kind of truck he was driving and ask them to pull them over if they saw him. These assholes think that if there is metal within 10ft of a garbage pile it is there for the taking. Anyone in their right mind would know that a perfectly good scooter parked on the sidewalk wasn't there to be thrown away. I'll be looking for him next week and I know if I ask him about it he will just deny it and I'll probably end up kicking his ass so I'm thinking that I'll put a board with some nails in it under his tires while he is picking up some trash. I'm sure the asshole won't have a spare with him since that would just take up room in the bed of his shitty truck.

Put another scooter out on the sidewalk and smear poop all over it.

Some guy came up to ask me about the 2a I was selling and wanted to know how much it sold for as he wanted it for scrap, I was thinking FU jerk I would never scrap that. I turned and went back in the house. I could tell he was trailer trash as soon as I saw him Buying cars and scrapping them only works for people who don't know how much is worth in weight.

While what happened to you is bullshit I welcome them. Saginaw is full of blight and they are ridding the city of it quickly.

Hook an electric horse fence to the scooter and leave it out there for him, that'll keep him off your scrap!

You know what I'm sick of...... (Don't take this personally, I know your boy is only 7 and it's definately a lesson learned!) All the kids in my neighborhood are leaving their toys, scooters, and bikes all over the front yards! It looks pretty trashy! I wish that guy would drive through my neighborhood! I even had to talk to my neighbor about their kids leaving their shit in my front yard.

When I was a kid my parents made me put things back where the belong, even if I was running in the house for a drink of water! If I didn't, they told me someone might take it! I had to learn the lesson the hard way when my bike was stolen!

Hmmm ..... What a novel concept!

So his kid was suppose to take his scooter back home and put it in the garage while he stopped by his friends house.

Around here the scrap guys have to be licensed by the city. Scrap truck without a window sticker means the scrap guys get to walk home. Thins the herd pretty quickly and the ones who do fork for it become a lot less shady since the cops have a reason to stop them and check for it.

Isn't garbage picking illegal to begin with and most cities have ordinances specifically about it?

most? no. some, yes.

A google search for "Garbage Scavenging Ordinance" will show that some do in fact have ordinances that prevent it, which however are in large part unenforced.

The articles that do indicate stepped up enforcement are apparently regarding the speculated lost revenues the City is missing out on with the increased price of scrap metals that formerly was revenue shared with the contractor.

I had an incident with some lady a few months ago. She went through my trash and when she was down left me with picking up the mess. I just did a little searching on my cities ordinances.

Sec. 58-40. Scavenging.
It shall be unlawful for any person to scavenge or pick out or sort in any way any garbage or rubbish materials after they have been set out at the sidewalk for city collection.
(Code 1981, 12-26; Ord. No. 3-95, 1, 3-6-1995)
