Just go to the sos and say I bought a bike with no title what do I need. They give you a paper to take to the cops to run the numbers and your good to go after they sign it.that easy.

You need a TR-54 (under certification forms). Click on it and print it out. Take it to the police department (not MSP they don't do them any more) and have an officer verify and run the VIN.

Take completed form to SOS office. Apply for new title. Pay state money. Get new title and registration. Drive motorcycle down road.

Actually just bring the vin numbers to the S.O.S. and they will run them there. No need to even have the cops involved unless it comes back as having been stolen than there will be problems. It will help to have a bill of sale stateing how much you paid etc. They will probably want to know where the titile went though. And why can the title holder not apply?

You will find that it varies from county to county. In some counties, the cops refuse to do the VIN verifications because they are "too busy".

hey kyle! im amped to pick this bike up! nothing like getting a bike that the owner told me he will get to fire for $50. its a 1978-80 (not sure year) gs400 suzuki with 3,000 original miles for $50. hes an old guy i work with and figured it would sit in his barn for the rest of his life and i wanna take it and make a bobber out of it. hes gonna get it running for me. it sat in his barn since 1985 and he poured new gas in it 6 months ago and it fired on the first turn. he said hes gonna clean out the carbs and i can pick it up thrursday and ride it home. my plans are to shorten the rear frame an put a single seat on it and lower the rear and get some new handle bars for now just for kicks most likely ape hangers but i will see how it sits once i lower the rear.
