Default My boat....

I figure it's about time I posted about my boat... it is a '69 Gaylord flat bottom v-drive. 400 SBC, mostly stock for now, just put some better heads on it last year since the previous ones were cracked due to thinner castings. Just finished a complete re-wire job on it. Still need to rebuild and install a 600 holley carb to replace the 450 economizer since it is so undersized. Still need to get the GPS out and verify my current top speed. It has a pretty low pitch prop on it for skiing and it really blasts out of the hole, but winds up pretty high when it gets close to 50 mph. I bet with the right prop it would cruise up to the mid 70s. Lots of fun just to cruise in though!

LOL... what are the odds of that? Thats kinda creepy actually. The engine was probably in my garage torn apart and I was hauling the boat in to the car wash to clean out the years of grime inside of it.

That is messed up. I just saw a cool boat and figured I would shoot a picture of it. What are the chances?

That is badass by the way.

Yeah. I will let you know when I am going to be up that way next. I also have been wanting to get it out on Long Lake. Are you up there for the summer?

How long have you had that boat? Had you done a restoration on it?

I am up in Alpena for now... should be spending some time down in Flint in the near future, but not sure on the schedule quite yet.
I have owned the boat for the past three years... my dad owned the boat since the mid-late seventies. When he bought it it had a 375 hp 327 sbc in it with the v-drive and prop geared more toward racing. It was painted gold back then and had the original wood dash rotting away. He put the 400 in it and set it up for skiing, made the stainless dash for it, and had it painted silver and black. As it sits now the hull and stringers are still nice and solid, but the paint has begun bubbling and peeling because there was way too much flake mixed in it, and the seats could stand to be rebuilt/reupholstered. She's no show stopper, but maybe one day I will take the time/effort/$$$$ and bring her back to showroom condition.
