Default Urgent: Missing alzheimer's patient in Owosso area.

My friend at Glocktalk needs your help in Shiawassee county.

Quote:
Last Sunday, July 13, Brad's great uncle went missing. Uncle John is an Alzheimer's patient with a current staging somewhere between high Stage 5 and Stage 6. He walked out with his GSD mix Buddy sometime between 11pm Sunday night and 9ish Monday morning. His wife is his primary care-giver.

An MSP-led search was initiated almost immediately. This search included members of the county Search and Rescue Team, State Police officers, 26 individual search dogs and a couple hundred civilian volunteers. Over the course of five days of search only two corroborated leads were found. The MSP and SCSO jointly called off the search on Friday evening; the lack of additional leads did not substantiate the requirement for continued LEO involvement in an active search.

No sign of John has been found, but the family is continuing to investigate additional search options.

Your thoughts, prayers and even suggestions for search are appreciated. For those interested in reading the news stories, just let me know and we'll get the links. Those of you in SE MI, please keep the word out that he's missing.

Thank you.

Here is the pic that was provided to the media, I don't have a better one to post:

" Tierney, who may answer to the nickname “Red,” was wearing red-and-white striped pajama pants and a black NASCAR coat. He wasn't wearing shoes. If he took his coat off, Tierney would have a matching red-and-white striped pajama shirt.

He also may have the family dog - a German shepherd mix who answers to the name “Buddy” - with him.

Anyone with information should call Shiawassee County Central Dispatch at 743-9112."

He was found. He did not survive.

Thank you all for your thoughts and prayers.

John was found this evening, following the discovery of his dog at a local supercenter. To my knowledge his body was found, intact, less than a mile from his home. The estimation is that he has been deceased since approximately Thursday - a cause of death will not be known until the required autopsy is completed and filed.

The location of his body closes one chapter on this, but opens a new one. The family now has to grieve both the loss of their father and deal with the resentment that will likely result from the cause of his disappearance in the first place. Your continued thoughts and prayers for the family are appreciated.

Thats sad.

I always hear of old people wandering off, but never hear if they ever find them, etc.

I guess this is why my grandma is in a place that an alarm goes off if the door is opened.

Yep, they visited us at the steam railroading institute Thursday and I did a thorough walk through of our rail yard checking all the equipment. Couldn't find the guy, but hope he is found soon.

Edit: Just read the update

I did not read further down until I posted.

Sorry for your loss. As a nurse working in homecare, it happens alot with residents wandering off. With the home door alarms, it does helps to signal caregivers. They are not cheap though and for people living in private homes, they may not be able to afford one of these. My thoughst and prayers are with the family.

I hadn't heard the update until now, I guess I can take the flagged stick out of the lot next door now.

Bummer to hear the update.
