I finally finished my steering upgrade. No more, 9:00 to 5:00 slop in the steering wheel. I fab'd it some what like what would be found on a TJ frame.

I used a steering column from a 94? XJ. I cut the mount off the end of the tube and welded my own tabs on to the end of the tube and bolted the column to the floor. The fun will be wiring everything up.

Forgot to mention the front end. I lengthened the frame by about 4" so i could use wrangler YJ springs and out boarded the springs to 32" C to C. Ill be running with a Ford HD D44 up front but for now im using a HP30(big U-joints) from a 94 XJ.

I finally found a set of "old School wheels for the Willys, A set of faded Turbine style wheels 10 X 15's. Im looking forward to getting them sand blasted and Powder Coated.




I also got around to swapping in a Ford 9" rear and the front HD D44 is ready to put in as soon as I get around to pulling the HP D30 out.

Default willys pickup truck

hi every one, I m restoring a Willys pick up truck.
when i bought it, it just has the front cabin but not the rear pickup part.
so can anyone please give me the dimensions for the rear portion.

I finally got the F250 D44 hooked up, steering done, brakes bleed. For now there's just minor stuff to be done, front shackles, shock upgrade. Here's the latest pics.

"THX" to "YOU"!!! Thx for narrowing the front D44 Adam and advice too. I used the Grand waggy linkage and found an old neighor that had the tapered reamer I needed so I could flip the tie-rod linkage over and then ream the linkage that goes to the pitman arm.
Now I can start gathering parts so I can swap in either my Brothers motor/1969 351W or throw a crank into my amc401. Both motors need the same amount of input/time/money/more....money/more.....time.??!
Maybe I should skip that for now and raise the garage door header so I dont have to pull the wheels off every time I want to put the willys back into the garage?

Love the look of it, love the rims. Doesn't look like you did anything to the rims? I'd have left them like you got them, it goes with the paint. I love the "patina" look of good old paint.

All I did to the rims was to scuff the fins with a scotch bright pad to add a dull shine so they stand out more. My plans were to have them sand blasted and powder coated a dull black or charcoal grey. The rims can wait. Im lining parts up to get a motor in it within this month or next month.
Some of the sheet metal/fenders, has stress cracks about an inch long that need to get welded up, no big deal except ill have to make up a batch of mud/paint to blend in with the rest of the faded, peeling paint.

Well heres the latest. The amc 360/temp motor I had under the hood of my willys sold so I could finish building my Amc 401. I should have the block back from getting bored .030 over, in a few days. This time, instead of 10:1 pistons im going with 8.9:1 pistons so I can run on reg pump gas. As it stands now i wont be using the other 401 thats already punched out, im debating on sellng it or keep it for a backup{if I ever can find a Gremlin to drop it into...}. Im hoping to drop the 401 into the willys within the next 2 weeks if not sooner.

i have seen this willys up close while picking up some parts. its is very clean!

theres nothing wrong with taking a vintage truck and putting a modern drivetrain in it to make it preform better. Why preserve it for the next guy? build it and enjoy it! Nice truck id love to own it.

Well, it has been a wee bit of time since my last update so heres some pics of what I did to the willys over this past summer, And this was while working 12 hour days, 7 days a week. Right now im off of work for 3 months because I just had hip replacement 3 weeks ago. I picked up a amc 401 from a close friend of mine for $200. sludge included for free.


I sent the block out to D&S in Clawson and had it dipped,bored, and pistons pressed to the connecting rods.








Heres the motor complete. Block bored .030 over, Reg pump gas 8.9 to1 Pistons, comp cam 280, and air gap manifold w/670 holley on top.


I finnally got to drop the motor and rebuilt 727 trans in on the 4th of July weekend.
