most cases, yes. some places require the title be in your name, too. If the car is 15+yrs old and is obviously abandoned or a field car, probably not. . . check with the scrap yard first.

2. do i have to pull the gas tank or can i leave it in there

pull it out and cut a big hole in it or just remove the float/sending unit/in-tank pump

3. do i have to drain all fluids

no

thanx for the help

I didn't need to take out the tank when I scrapped a year ago.

I agree with everybody else on the other two questions though.

as far as i knew, you need a title, and all you have to do to the car is pull the gas tank and the battery

Depends on the scrap yard with the gas tank question, we had a car sitting at work and we needed the title and the gas tank cut out, stilll had fluids.

At the scrap yard on 32 mile near Richmond, all I had to do is put a hole in the tank and have a title.

I just scrapped 2 trucks last week at FPT (ferrous processing in auburn hills).

1) You must have the title. Neither were in my name, but they make sure they were signed over to me. They made me read off the VINs on the dash while they checked them against the title.

IF you don't have the title, then call them first and discuss. YOu will likely need to cut the car into small scrap sections.

2) No gas tanks there. They turned me away on one that had the tank.

3) No need to drain fluids or pull batteries.

At FPT, they will charge you 50 lbs each if there's tires still on it. At 190/ton, it was about $5 per tire, which was, IMO, fair disposal fee for me, since its a pian to get rid of tires on old rusty rims anyway..

Prices for car stuff there last week: $190/ton for unstripped cars, $1/pound for radiators.

Pull the battery, radiator, and the cat. You can make alot more money getting rid of those on the side. If alumin rims you can get some money for those also

When I took some scrap steel to the Richmond scrap yard people were just driving vehicles in, having them weighed then driving them off to the big magnet. I got pics.
I asked the guy about it and they said you just need to drive it in. Some of the cars that were brought in while I was there looked like they'd be awesome restored. Oh well. I got scared when a '64 GMC pickup came in. They were just following someone else who drove in a newer truck.

The car crusher. We were watching cars go in, cubes coming out. It's a fun place to take pics.

This truck was driven in and we watched it get chewed up by the Terex with the big scissors.

Mr. Hacksaw, don't be asking Mr. Hombre a question like that.

It's not right.

When we were in TN last year we were amazed at the gun collections that people have in their closets down there. The guy who's guest house we stayed in had 32 guns of assorted varieties in his crawl space and he'd show them off to anyone who wanted to see them. He got them in trade for doing some work for some guy.
