Default 5.1 audio for computer

Anybody got any suggestions for a decent 5.1 speaker system for my computer? I have a new Alienware on the way, and figure since we spent the extra hundo on the Soundblaster 7.1 XtremeGamer card, might as well get a decent speaker system for it. I'm not sure how much I want to spend, I want decent sound quality, so more than a hundred bucks I'd guess I'm looking at, probably closer to $200 or 250 maybe for a price range (blew past the budget by a thousand bucks on the computer, so naming a price is kind of useless for me ).

Check out Logitech. Ive got their first model that was THX certified. They're a couple years old now, but still kick out some intense db's

Something like the Logitech Z5500? Those look pretty bling and seem to have good reviews.

How are Klipsch speakers? My dad has a set of Promedia 2.1's and loves them, but I read some reviews that say their amps are prone to failure.

I have an audigy XFI fatality card and I got the Logitech GX-530 speakers to go with it. Sounds incredible and I only paid $50 for the speakers. Klipsch were considered to be the best but I think the cost to make them has dropped so that others are now putting out good systems. I don't think any of the logitech x.1 setups would disappoint you. The only complaint on mine is no mic port on the right speaker with the headphone jack.

Logitech is good, but Klipsch is a better one to go with. I have had good expreiences with Altec Lansing as well. The one that has an 8" power sub and two desktop tower speakers with 3" speakers & two tweeters each with volume control.

Anything along those lines are pretty good systems. Some places will let you hear them first. Of course you can alwyas go with a Bose system for your P.C. but that is getting up there.

Klipsch IS a better system. The sound may appear to be the same quality, but I assure you the Klipsch will perform longer and better in the long run and is actually a higher quality brand. model vs model differences may vary of course.

I've had the z5500 for three years now and it sounds like the day i bought it...I rock it @ 100% all the time with anything yet to break...I do not think the klipsch is a better system...I don't think the klipsch is junk, its just not better, and not worth the cost

I've had the Klipsch 2.1 system for around 3 years, only real problem I've had with it is the volume knob is scratchy.

I've read that the Promedia 5.1 systems have a bad amp on them (found some topics about it on the Klipsch forums). I'll have to take a look at the Logitech sometime.

Thanks. Glad I could help.

I am not telling you what to buy. Do your research of course. I am only offering advice since that is what you are asking for.

Everyone will have their own opinions about their most liked brand. You asked about a specific brand and I gave insight on that brand as well as other brands. This is what I do for a living. Home Automation, Audio/Video, Security/Surviellance, Computer/Telecommunications, etc.

In the end you will decide what you want to buy and the reason for doing so will be your own.

Good luck with your purchase and I hope you are happy with what ever you decide. I happen to be a dealer for a lot of P.C. & Home Theater equipment. If you would like me to check on some pricing for you please feel free to PM me.

Any good Altec Lansing systems that you'd recommend?

I had the Klipsch 4.1's for a day, 7 or so years ago. They sounded pretty stupdenous. Then I had a brownout and they stopped working, probably the internal fuse. I returned them, and decided I didn't really need expensive speakers.
