Default SOLD 1997 AX5 tranny $40!!

I have an AX5 tranny taken out of my 1997 TJ 4 cylinder. Has approx. 132,000 miles on it. Worked well - no grinding etc, though my wife did say she found it hard to shift. I never had a problem with it shifting, either did my son - so not sure what to make of that but thought I should mention it. Includes bellhousing (external slave type bellhousing) $40.

Located in Atlanta Michigan (east of Gaylord 32 miles). I work in Grayling so can meet up with people there weekdays...or if you will cover some gas cost, I can meet up elsewhere. Paypal or cash for payment.

Good price here - but make an offer (reasonable!) - I need the room, and the cash to finish my 4.0 swap!

I also have the matching transfer case for this tranny, and two 2.5 engines to sell - I will really make you a deal if you buy it all!

Here is the scoop on the two engines. Neither run well enough to just swap into a Jeep – but between the two, you should be able to end up with one good engine.

One engine came from my 97 TJ, has about 132,000 miles on it. It was pulled due to low compression in the #4 cylinder around 80 or 90 psi as I recall – the other 3 were actually quite good at about 170 PSI. (based on tests I ran – engine warm, all 4 plugs pulled, throttle open). The engine did run prior to being pulled – just not well. I pulled the head, and lapped the valves on the low cylinder – no improvement – so it seems issue is with the rings. This engine has a new water pump on it.

The second engine was bought with the intent of using it to swap parts from it to repair my original engine. It is either a 97 or 98 – forget which, with 98,000 miles on it (based on what the seller told me). He also told me that as far as he knew, this was a good running engine (he bought it after it was pulled). Unfortunately the block is cracked where one of the bell housing bolts goes near the starter – not really the block, but the flange the bellhousing bolts to. I swapped the head from this second engine onto my engine – compression was worse on my 3 good cylinders so it seems this head has some sticking valves etc. I put the original head back on my engine after this. As with the other engine, in looking at the cylinder bores – all appears good – no scoring etc. noticeable.

I decided I would rather do a 4.0 swap than mess with repairing my engine.

I will sell BOTH engines for $125, that would be with nearly two full sets of all the bolt on accessories between the two (ie – two throttle bodies, intake and exhaust manifolds, alternator etc.) though there may be a few items there are only one of depending on if I determine if I might need the alternator (for example) for my 4.0 (not even sure it would fit…), or other odds and ends. Between the two, you likely could swap out some bottom end parts and have a good running engine, plus some extra accessory items as spares, or to sell off.

I also have the transfer case that was originally paired up with my original engine. If you buy the engines, tranny and transfer case, you can get all for $300.

I dont have any plans to be heading to the dunes in the near future - but we could work out meeting up somewhere in between. What all are you interested in?

Scuba - I dont need a T-case . Right now, about the only Jeep parts I would need are some adjustable upper rear control arms for a TJ. Otherwise, good ole cash or pay pal would work for me.

4x4 - the tranny is a AX-5 - is that what you meant, not T-5? Anyhow - check your PMs.

I also have the clutch master cylinder, line to the slave and slave fork such this tranny could work in a YJ, and convert your old internal slave to an external slave. The two engines mentioned about also available still. I need room in the garage - make me an offer on a bunch of this stuff!
