That's really pushing it based on my experiences. I've got several buddies who've broken a handful of 4L60Es, both stock and built, behind fairly mild gen III smallblocks. I've seen some hold up to more abuse than you'd ever expect, others have sh1t themselves way more easily than a trans ever should. Hell, one buddy has killed 3 or 4 of them in a bone stock 96 Silverado. One even twisted off an output shaft behind a mildly modded 6.0. It seems to be pretty hit or miss whether or not they'll stand up to the abuse....

That being said, I'm giving it a shot. I've got a 700R4 that's supposedly got about $2k worth of work done to it that I'll be running behind my mildly built 6.0. I'm gonna have a full manual reverse pattern valvebody with compression braking, torque converter lockup switch, and a big trans cooler. I'll definitely be putting it to the test but hopefully it'll hold up.

Ben gets a little carried away when you tell him something....

I told him to stay away from the earlier ones, not that there are problems with them but the later ones have some of the better redesigned parts and things like that. The newer ones are too expensive for the most part. the only benefit to the older ones is the cable throttle is easier to come by but that can be taken care of easily enough with an aftermarket TB.

an E85 engine would be nice because you get an oversized fuel system and the injectors will support big HP on a short spray duration without having to swap them out. the AFM would also make for a pretty cool feature.... cruising around, flick the switch and you're in 4 cyl mode, flick it back and you're 400+ hp. not needed but would be a cool feature!

Mine's a 700R4 but the case and stuff should be the same. I've got a spare but currently it's in the rig for mockup.....how soon would you need it?

how often does a factory ECM fail? how about the lifters?

you'd better tell everyone with cam phasing and active fuel management that their engine is going to fail when they least expect it.... about 70% of current vehicles being sold has one if not both of those features on it.

quit worrying

I'll see what I can do. If I get the rear suspension done quickly then maybe I'll get a move on my engine stuff so I can do the swap. I've got a lot to do and that part wasn't particularly high on my priority list for now.

I have a 700r4 he can borrow.

I'm trying to talk him into just picking up a junk one off craigslist for mock up and a spare.

Good stuff. That's what I did too. I picked up a TCI built one on here for cheap then a buddy hooked me up with one that has a ton of work done to it for just as cheap. If I break one I've got a spare and if I break both it's time to upgrade. Sh1tty part is that the valvebody is gonna cost more than both trannies combined.
