I was forced to read "Atlas Shrugged" in college. I think Ayn Rand used to masturbate with a rolled up Wall Street Journal.

Interesting video, but I find some of her logic flawed.

I agree that it's virtually impossible to prove non-existence. But then she tries to imply that the lack of proof of existence proves non-existence. I don't agree with that.

She then make a bigger err in logic when she starts talking about not believing in god because she feels that believing in god has a bad effect on people.

Not good logic.

Doesn't matter how knowledgeable she is about history. It's still an err in logic to say that because peoples belief in something existing led them to do bad things, it proves that the something does not exist.

I just finished reading Atlas Shrugged, and didn't necessarily think that her anti-religion bent was the point of the book. The major theme of the thing was that people should not hold others down because of some moral ideal. We've all heard about how noble it is to help a neighbor, well, sure it's all good, but what about when it's some political hippie who thinks it's for the common goo that that we rob from the "greedy rich" and give it to the lazy poor. That, like it or not is what it amounts to.

Someone makes a bunch of money on their hard work, and someone else wants part of it because they deserve it. They didn't earn it, but hey deserve it. They deserve it because they are a person too. Not everyone can be ambitious and employ thousands of people.

Blah, blah, yadda yadda . . .

I think the anti-religion part was a very small part of the whole story. Unfortunately, many will dismiss the whole 1167 pages because of about 7 "offensive" paragraphs.

It didn't affect my religion at all . . . however it did make total sense to my moral being. Of course, I'll do nice things for my neighbor . . . ultimately it makes for a better life for me in the end, and I get the satisfaction of being a nice person. Now, if they are ungrateful jerks, then maybe I'll help them once of my own volition. But when Obama tells me that I have to give 40% of my paycheck to help the "needy", that's when I tend to get a little 'upset', and want to move to Galt's Gulch.

I do not like her. She is a good writer, but way to crazy for me.
