Exclamation What would you do?

So imagine that you have your dream job. You set your own hours, make your own rules, run things the way you want and absolutely love what you do. You might not make a million a year, but you know that if things keep going the way they are now your paycheck is guaranteed to increase a great deal... And what you don't make now is made up for with everything else you need being paid for.

Then all of a sudden someone calls you and offers you a very very nice salary and a shiny new company truck if you come work for them. And lets just say this person also happens to be family that still owes you money for work you did for them and material you sold them... but all of a sudden their business is expanding and they "can't do it without you".....

The job you have now is at a company with endless opportunities and tons and tons of cool things to do and learn and figure out.

You already know almost everything about the job you have been offered and it would be pretty damn simple compared to what you've been doing at your current job.

Both jobs are very secure.

Do you owe it to your family to help them out? While still making a killer paycheck...

Or do you owe it to yourself and your current situation to see what the world might have in store for you?

This friend of mine asked me that and I just dont know what to say

What about obligations to your family? Even if the other business is family, too... Just a little bit more successful?

I mean, I know I need to take care of myself, but I feel guilty not taking care of the part of the family that needs me the most.

There is no such thing as "obligations to family" when it comes to your livelyhood.

Obligations to family are like making sure that grandmas lawn gets mowed, not changing your career to work for a family member.

Make the choice that makes you happy. Money is not the only factor.

agreed, you owe them nothing. if your happy with current pay and position then stay. regardless of family or not pick the one that overall makes you the happiest.

My current job has much bigger toys for me to play with. And it seems like we get new ones every other week. We just got another dozer yesterday. I really love what I do. I can do it for the other company, but it will be on a much smaller scale.

Since both are family, are either of them offering you a piece of the pie? Ownership at some level?
