Default So, help me understand this.. Old man goes online, finds 13 year old boy,

talks about how he wants to do him, drives three hours, shows up, goes in the house. Dateline NBC is waiting for him, tells him to have a seat. Old man is arrested. Old man gets out of jail, kills himself.

The brother of the old man who just tried to screw a 13 year old boy SUES dateline for 105 million and wins.

What the hell is up with this?

it was his sister that brought the lawsuit.

In the lawsuit, Patricia Conradt said NBC "steamrolled" police to arrest her brother after telling police he failed to show up at a sting operation 35 miles away.
so did the guy show up or not? fuck nbc anyways, they are not out there doing this to protect children from these people, they are out there to get their ratings up.

WWJ made it sound like he showed up, that article makes it sound like he didn't. Either way, I think its better for society that this child molester killed himself.

Even though NBC does it for the ratings, you have to think that "to catch a predator" has helped many kids by scaring some of the molesters.

To Catch A Predator is awesome.

The guy who killed himself did so because of the terrible things in his life. There obviously was a better way, but it is no the show's fault.

This story is sickening.

On the other hand, as with all of the media, it also gives people more bad ideas.

I think the "repentance and forgiveness" is probably the "better way" that Dave is referring to.

He did not show up, NBC pressured the police to go to the dude’s house and confront him.

No, you got most of the fact wrong.

He chatted with someone who he thought was a 13 year old boy, but when he failed to show up at the "sting house" Dateline NBC camped out in front of his house and then convinced the local police into getting a search warrant. When the police knocked on the front door the guy shot himself.

His sister sued and NBC settled out of court.

If he didn't show up, he didn't commit a crime or have any intent to commit the crime. He didn't do anything illegal. By looking at this one incident, he was not a child molester, he is a person who is probably sexually attracted to children. There are people who exist where this is the case. Having the attraction is not a crime, acting on it is.

Awesome! I'd still like to know how CC's way would technically be child molestation. I mean he showed up and dateline was there. If there was no child, who did he molest?

Even having the thoughts regularly is sick.

I can't stand this country's legal system anymore. If I went and called someone a worthless piece of shit, and they commit suicide, I'm sorry but I'm not responsible. Now if I pulled the trigger it's a completely different story.

Thanks for clearing it up brewmann. I have yet to find an article saying what you just did, but I trust your statement.

Isn't it with children, you don't need to actually do anything, just intent?

I think you're right, it's still considered soliciting.

All the guys that show up with the intent to molest some young girl or boy with those Dateline things end up getting arrested and most convicted.
