Default Best Gyms in Ann Arbor

Looking at gyms in Ann Arbor to join. I enjoy doing stuff at home/running outside...but I need to take some classes and get motivated.

I found this gym HyperFit USA , it seems pretty hardcore but I think it would be fun, and you can cancel your membership at anytime. I might go check it out.

But, wondering if anyone knows of good places to join that have good classes, are safe to be at and relatively inexpensive.

Thanks.

hard to go wrong with LifeTime Fitness, but I am not sure there is one actually in Ann Arbor.

Try some "rock climbing" at Planet Rock. Great all around workout.

Lifetime sucks. Ballys sucks. Any commercial place that tries to get you to sign a contract sucks. Goto a local gym that charges 20 bucks a month with no commitment and you will be happy. There has got to be a hole in the walll gym left in A^2 that doesn't care if you want to be a lifer there.

My friend Jen manages the fitness center at Washtenaw Community College. Not sure if they are open to public or if you need to be a student, but might be worth looking into. She used to run the Pfizer fitness center and is a ton of fun too and I know you'd hit it off. If you stop in tell her Jeff Hanselman referred you.

Ive been a member at the YMCA in downtown and it's veryyy nice. The wait time on weights and machines sucks though. All day everyday they are pretty busy. They are a brand new facility and it is always clean and staff/people are friendly in there. Everything (including price) is great at the A2 'Y' except it gets busy. It's a convenient location so that may be your best option.

Washtenaw's gym is great. It's in Ypsi but it just opened in September and it a very great facility. You can take a tour of it online in fact. If it was closer i would for sure get a membership there. You do not have to be a student as far as i know. I believe you do have to work or live in the county though. I've only walked through so i don't have a whole lot of experience.

Do not go to Gold's, Lifetime, or Bally's. I have worked out at all of those places and i have friends that work there. Most of their trainers and machines i've found are sub standard and they like to rip people off. Currently, I'm a member at a cheap local gym in Dexter. I'll be going to Eastern in the fall and getting a membership at washtenaw's gym.

I am a member of the Dominos Farm Fitness center and the Ypsilanti Power House Gym. Powerhouse is really nice, its brand new, all brand new equipment and lots of variety, it gets fairly busy, but its not cheap. The Dominos Farm fitness center is ok, the machines are startting to show their age, but its never busy and its pretty cheap.

Let me know if you are interested in DFFC I could sponsor you if you are interested.
