BTW the best things about Bush are the things he hasn't done. Like raise taxes or give me any BS about global warming.

yeah, great, he didn't raise taxes, but he did spend insane amounts of borrowed money because he didn't raise taxes and is making our money worth less. Which is better?

Nothing other than asking you to back up your asinine opinions with some facts and coherent thinking on your part. I have not stated any of my opinions in this thread, yet you have, and continue to dodge requests for you to back up your bullshit with concrete facts. Bottom line is that you can't, therefor you won't. This is the smart people forum. You need to click a couple forums up to stay in the pub with the youngin's.

You must not be aware that with the Bush tax cuts federal revenue has gone up. Unemployment has stayed steady at around 5% (nearly 1.5% less than in the Clinton years). And don't forget that a democrat controlled congress has OK'd and helped to spend all the borrowed money.

Now, please return the favor, and educate me on how Bush is making our money worth less.

You are proving my point, sir.
Sorry I missed this post until I went back and reread =/

I guess the theory is that the schools are trying to get lower initial scores in order to get more funding and then to purposefully meet the benchmarks year over year, yet the improvements come SLOWER than they possibly could have... All in a grand conspiracy to milk the most funding from the fed?

Im pretty sure that standards we are talking about are set on a state by state basis (individual states set the standard for its own school) not on a school by school basis. So it would have to be a conspiracy at the state level. Is it possible that the lower standards were set that way so as to not leave so many under performing schools/students in the dust?

That is - Would it be correct to hold a state like Michigan to the standard of say Massachusetts when Michigan had Detroit to try and prop up?

Besides, a goal of nclb as I understand it is continual year over year improvement. Even states starting at a lower standard would need to show improvement and if Im not mistaken reach a certain level of proficiency per grade level by like 2014... Anyway is not some level of quantifying improvement better than no accountability of federal tax dollars spent on education at all??? Anybody remember all the lotto tax $$$ pumped into the state school system and we got what out of it? 70% drop out rate in DPS and ZERO accountability???

As for the cheating, or teaching to the test theory - which is I guess intended to artificially raise the average score of the schools in order to get the bonus funding for high performing schools... Well again the point of nclb is continual improvement year over year. If the cheaters are not caught and prosecuted quicklike, then they will be pulling year-over improvement out of their asses every year. High risk IMO. Not to say that it cant happen.

And if a teacher has a high performing class, yet 'holds the students back' in order to teach to the test, than what you have is a shitty teacher, not a shitty system. No one is stopping a teacher from teaching the standardized test material and moving onward and upward.

Poke holes in my argument all you want. Does ANYONE argue that the public school system was fine and dandy before 2001? The way I see it the purpose of nclb was to try and add some accountability where there was none to tax dollars spent on a public education system that was/is failing. And I still havent heard ANYTHING other than "My friend says nclb is dumb or Im a teacher and I hate it" that would make me think nclb is a complete turd and is "ruining our schools". That INCLUDES the MULTITUDE of "news" reports of all the shortcomings of nclb - and as usual - none of them bring alternatives or improvements to the table.

Sorry for the serious post, its late and Ive been dicking with this thread all day

The liberal controled media says Bush is an oil man, and there where hanging chads, so it must be his fault.

Most people in the education field are out of touch with reality anyway.
