Default do not buy toshiba laptops

I bought mine about a year ago, worked great the whole time. about 1:30 AM the LCD decides to take a shit and stops working. I get on toshiba's website and it just so happens that my warrenty expired on the 12'th of june 2008.

really convenient huh?
I tried talking to their support and the best thing they can do for me is have me mail it in, I wait 7-10 days and pay $425. I paid $700 for the laptop last year, I'm not dumping another $400 into it.

So yeah, Don't buy toshiba stuff, it fails just after warranty

That's pretty shitty that they won't even work with you on the warranty. 1 day over should still be covered, or at least give you a hell of a break on the parts.

I guess the warranty has to run out sometime, bites that it broke the day after. I have had a Toshiba laptop for almost 5 years...still running strong, the fans sounds like they need replaced, but then again I have used it as a true laptop...its been all over the U.S.

plug it into an external LCD, and milk it for another year as a "small form-factor" pc.

*shrug*

I had to call tech support twice and talk to 4 different people, a supervisor and finally was transferred to some actual "support" guy not just a flunkee with a computer and telephone

he told me to take it to their dealer to see if it was from physical damage or just hardware failure, if its hardware failure, I'm covered.

That experience alone shouldn't be reason to "not buy Toshiba Laptops". They are quite a good laptop. So, you had a failure and it didn't go your way. Everyone has their bad apples. I still will recommend Toshiba over any other laptop.

Same here, replaced the fan (which is about a 3 hour project) and she works like a champ again.

You might be able to find a bulb on ebay or something?

Warranty is up anyways...buy the bulb and put it in yourself.

Huh? It's a laptop, there is no bulb, it's a LCD display.

It sounds like the ribbon went out, but I've never seen one just stop working. Usually, there's signs of a bad ribbon before it stops working, either intermittent outages, or static and unclear image.

Yes they do have back ground lights it's lcd not led. Besides on most laptop sites they say Toshiba is one of the worst in failures. made in the past few years. They creat to much heat is the reason for the failures.
