You do realize that Shackles are like $12 at TSC, and $6 from other local supply places?

Personally, I think a lot of the failures are from over-zealous people.
2x I have C4x4 front tow hooks on my XJ. I was lifted off Grand Man's rock pile Via them and no problems. I also ass pakced a sebring with them and they didn't bend.

For the rear I use a Warn reciever and shackle. That way the weight is spread out between both of the rear frame rails.

I live in a "metro" area. Short of Wal Mart or Meijer carrying the kind of heavy duty shackle for this purpose, local isn't likely to happen. Besides, I'm willing to spend the extra $4 for shipping to support JCR.

And Tom, no this thread isn't over a shackle. It's about a few legitimate questions regarding safety during recovery. I don't have a whole lot of money, and I'd still like to wheel, but I'm not gonna risk someone else's life to do it, thus looking for the cheapest safe way available to me.

I don't think I have a place that would carry the type of heavy duty shackle I need, honestly. There is no TSC, no farm supply place near me, because I'm in a "metro" area that won't support that type of business.

Here is the closest TSC to you, not that I don't appreciate you trying to support local shop or GL4x4 member business but if you really are that tight on cash....

Really? Where exactly? I work near there, and drive Telegraph a lot, but I don't think I've ever noticed it.
