Default is it really that big of a deal?

I just ran out and put gas in the GFs car so she can get to work tomorrow. I took a $20 bill, and $10 in quarters that I just wanted to get rid of. I go in to pre-pay and the guy at the gas station refused to take the quarters. wtf?
I went to the gas station right next to it, and they took them, but made it out to be this huge deal. Is it really that big of a deal? I mean, $10 in quarters, is still $10.
I would understand if I took in $300 in pennies or something, but really, $10 in quarters isn't all that much change.

No, it's not a big deal. Tell them you hate Dale Jr. while you're there.

I would never think to refuse a customer paying with $10 in quarters, I've had customers pay with up to $35 in quarters. If they need a part I'm not gonna refuse them because they only have change.

If they refuse to take your money..lay it on counter..then pump gas and sue if they arrest you or don't turn on the pump.

One of the stations near me wants us to use change so they don't have to get it at the bank all the time.

boss used to pull that shit when i was in High school working at the hardware store.. refused to take large amounts of change but yet it seemed every hr i was opening up a new roll of quarters.. ( his excuse was we'd have too many quarters in the drawer if we accepted their change payment..

Yeah, any business can refuse your payment of change if not wrapped but they better damn well have a policy posted, if not then they just denied you service for being gay, white or because your flatfender:tonka: But then you can bitch and threaten to sue for discrimination.

I would like to take this oppurtunuity and test the waters with what I have learned from Fatty Matty:

FlatFender: Here is $10.00 in quarters, I will now pump gas.
Station Clerk: No, I am refusing your change and turning your pump off.
FlatFender: No. That isn't nice. Quarters are still cash.
Sation Clerk: Hey stop raping me.
FlatFender: So you will accept my change?
Station Clerk: Yes. I'm sorry.

How'd I do? Good?

I have not researched it, but I have always understood it is illegal to refuse US currency for goods and services.
