Clawson 4th Of July Parade
6/08/08 3:15pm Edit: Just heard back from the parade commission, it's a go!
Well guys its that time again
Several people have asked me about this, and its my fault since i haven't been able to get a free moment in the last couple weeks to sit down and figure it all out.
I e-mailed the parade committee last night, and am waiting for a reply, but I don't think it will be an issue, since we are quite a favorite with the people of Clawson. Most of you know that I used to live in Clawson, and I hear nothing but good things from everyone involved, and watching.
So here's the scoop: I will start a list now, but it will be pending the reply from the parade commission. As I said above, I don't see any conflicts with us getting back in this year, so feel free to sign up.
The rules are pretty much the same as in the past, but I will review the big ones again here:
1. NO throwing candy! It must be handed out at the curbside buy someone walking in the group. This is not my rule, so please don't ask me why, or how to change it. I think we can all see how this has come about. There were rumors that a little kid got hurt running out in front of someone passing out candy. This was not our group, but it has affected the entire parade.
2. PLEASE NO PROFANITY on the rigs. This means stickers, posters, signs, whatever. There are a bunch of little kids out there, with big mean parents Bottom line, We want to come back next year
3. Decorating is highly encouraged. We line up at the Clawson Shopping Center, and there will be a Rite Aid at the corner which is normally open, and has all kinds of stuff to decorate with.
4. Please don't bring your dad's 1986 skylark to the parade. Every year someone asks me if its suppose to be just Jeeps. The answer is no. You can bring whatever trail rig or off road thing you like. People don't want to see station wagons, unless they are lifted 12 inches
None of these things have ever been an issue, so I'm sure they wont be this year either. We have been doing this for a long time now, and everyone really has a great time!
TIMES AND PLACES:
We will be meeting at the Clawson Shopping Center at 7:30 am on July the 4th. This is located on 14 Mile Rd just east of Crooks Rd. in Clawson. The parade will start at around 9:00 am. I'm not sure what our position will be, but usually it's around the end. We are usually what all the kids look forward to before they go home. Please be prepared to sit for a little while in the parking lot. Usually we roll onto the parade route around 10:30am.
Clawson is under construction this year, so the parade route has changed quite a bit. We will travel down 14 mile East to Main St (Which is how it's been in the past.) However, instead of taking main to Elmwood, and over to the park, we will be making a Left onto Broadacre, and taking that West to Bywood. We will then travel North on Bywood to the park.
In the past we have been limited to 50 vehicles, so that's what I'm going to call it this year, until told otherwise. If we are limited below 50, sadly, i will have to remove people from the list, in the order that you posted. I will let everyone know via this thread if something like that is happening.
People ask me each year if I'm having a party or get together after. I don't have anyplace to do this. I don't live in Clawson anymore, so it's difficult to set anything up. :chiefwoohaw: If you guys want to set up a Meet and Greet, by all means let me know your thoughts and we'll see what we can get going. The problems we've had in the past, is no one is open.
Clawson has a pretty good carnival and great stuff for the kids. Your more than welcome to stay and check that out as well. I think there is a small price at the gate of like 5 bucks, maybe less. Your also more than welcome to stay, or come back later for the fireworks, they are AWESOME in Clawson!! Just be aware that if you decide to come back, you'll have to find someplace to park
If you have any questions, comments, concerns, please PM me so that i will respond asap.
Thanks!! Looking forward to this year's turnout!!

In! Had a great time last year, and a few weeks ago in Waterfords Memorial parade. Hopefully, I'll at least be able to get the 30s on the jeep so I'm not completely stock this year, but I may also have a Ranger I could use. Depends on how quickly money can come together.

Hey, total newb here. I've seen your group in the parade for a few years now and it's always the best part. I've had my Jeep for a couple years and I'd like to join in. Plus with the parade route changed this year it won't go right past the end of my street so I figure, why not be in it!
I'll be decorating the hell out of my Jeep since it's only stock. Should be lots of fun.
