I voted for the Mega in Fenton. It's the only one I've been to and I live in Fenton.

That is soooooooooooooooooo wrong. You should be banned!

PS,
Real chili doesn't have chocolate and cinnamon in it but that's probably not important to someone who can't even spell Chili.

That's bullshit. You can only get real Coney Island in Michigan.

Those savages put pasta in chili.

Boo on the Skyline.

And frankly, the Montgomery Inn was about equal to The Boneyard on Telegraph.

This is why Layfayette is #1 in my book. You know your cheating cardiac arrest with every item you select from the menu. The hole-in-the-wall location, dirty bar stools, ancient tables, puke green walls, '70s-era menu with mismatched letters, dirty Lebanese workers are all contributing factors to the true Detroit coney experience. A trip to the mens room downstairs requires descending a narrow staircase and navigating around the prep cooks. I've been served beer well after 2AM on several occasions at Layfayette.
Your my new hero...

I couldn't articulate the experience..

I don't consider a coney a "real" coney if its not from Michigan either. I personally like the Flint Style with Koegels Vienna, the dry red sauce like Angelo's serves with mustard and onions only. Now that is a coney.

I've tried Texas Hots (from Buffalo, NY), Skyline in Cinnci, SuperDawgs in ChiTown and even Nathan's beef coney's fron NYC and I gotta give it to Michigan!

The results of the unofficial poll taken by my freind will be posted in the MCC Chronicle...Mott College's news paper. We are using the feedback from this post to narrow down the actual news paper poll to a top 10 or even top 5. Then the readers of the MCC Chronicle will get to vote. Results won't be published until October, 2009. But this thread is helping with the initial ground work.

I seen over 24% voted for Lafeyette's in Detroit, while my personal favorite, Angelo's, is in second. So I was in Detroit on Friday and stopped at the Lafeyette Coney Island on Lafeyette and Michigan ave right next to the American Coney. GREAT! I loved it!

The tiny, hole in the wall, coney joint had everything a Coney Island restaurant should have - atmosphere, good chili, great coney's, colorful employees and even more interesting patrons. I still love the Flint style coney, but I do put Lafeyette's at the top of my Detroit style coney island.

I posted another vote for Lafayette.

If I could vote a second time though, it would be for Hippo's in Troy on Rochester just north of Maple. They are also great for a Chicago style dog if you like that.

After seeing all the votes for Lupima's in Rochester, I now need to check that out sometime soon.
